Question butyl tape for vent windows?

Hey fellas,

Well I got my driver door completely apart and got all new weatherstripping from rock auto and the only thing holding me up is how I will reattach the actual vent window to the metal pivot frame. There is a good space between the two for what I think is called butyl tape or friction tape. Any idea on where or what size to get it? I have seen a whole lot of traffic regarding this other than using rtv but I'd like to see if I can get the tape to secure the window and I can finish installing the new seals and stuff. Any help is much appreciated!

Re: butyl tape for vent windows?

There's a good writeup thread describing how to rehab your vent windows with pictures that I can't find.
There are one and two piece seals and you need to get the right one for your window.

Here's #1 of a video series someone did.

Re: butyl tape for vent windows?

TKCR,

Got the tape, works as expected. Thanks so much for your help.

hatzie, thanks for the video, it really helped me out. I got one door done and things turned out pretty good. I ended up just using regular rivets and they worked out fine. The hinge rivet is kinda a pain, bc my rivet inners are a little smaller in diameter so when I close the vent window I don't have an absolute seal but Ill tinker with it.

Thanks fellas for your help.
