Lower control arm differences??

I have a 66 C20 with cast lower control arm shafts. While I had the motor out I noticed that the lower control arm shaft mounting bolts look like they are placed in the same location as the newer 67-84ish on the crossmember. I would like to do the caster mod of relocating the lowers forward to increase caster to a set of newer style lowers. My question it can I order the saddles, locating pin and u-bolts from LMC and simply bolt them in? That seems a whole lot easier than replacing the cross member.

Re: Lower control arm differences??

Adding the saddles to accept the round lower control arm shafts is not as simple as it may sound. They will have to be positioned exactly in the correct location, otherwise you will never get a proper alignment.

Yea. I guess that's what I am asking. Will the stock holes for the cast lower control arm shafts on my 66 cross member properly bolt up and locate a bar type lower control arm shaft??

Re: Lower control arm differences??

The original lower control arm mounting holes in a '63-'66 C20/30 front suspension crossmember will not work for mounting a round control arm shaft typically found in the '63+ C10's and the '67+ C20/30's.

The short answer is, no that will not work. That is why I always say that the crossmember needs to be changed when changing to the round LCA shafts.
