Yes, uncommon. Those were the optional stainless rectractable mirrors used in '67 and '68 pickups only. Because of "blind spot" problems associated with this design, they were dropped for the below eye line style.

The truck didn't come from the factory with those mirrors, you can see where it just had the small standard one with the 3 screws originally

Re: 68 custom camper with 4900 miles up for auction

I could be wrong, but I believe GM only offered painted RV Jrs and the stainless ones are from Fords. The accessory "Bus Mirrors" were brightwork

Re: 68 custom camper with 4900 miles up for auction

Have to agree with Tim on this that the factory installed 67-68 D29 west coast jrs (6x11) were painted. However they were offered in bright versions as accessories. This was a popular style and often seen fitted to later trucks as well.

The unpainted plug screws clearly support accessory mirror installation. Base mirrors (LH & RH 6-3/4" fixed arm) were apparently installed on this truck based on the SPID which is only listing the D36 optional inside rear view mirror.

Re: 68 custom camper with 4900 miles up for auction

'67 Custom Camper with the same accessory mirrors and the same aftermarket camper tie down brackets as well. Luckily for the RV boom during the mid 60's to early 70's, we can still find excellent examples of these 3/4 tons today.
