Autometer 5" Tach Mounting Question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Im swapping all my gauges for Autometer gauges and since I already had a 5" tach mounted on the dash I figured id just move it to the cluster. I thought I would just take the mounting plate off and use the bracket to hold it in but i had to cut the whole backside of the bezel out for it to sit flush. Now Since my tach is the 5" big section and the smaller 4"ish section where the bracket for the dash mounts Im at a loss on how to hold it in the bezel. Best I have come up with is a couple of hose clamps put together so it has 2 places to hold it flush in the beze and then maybe some 2 part epoxy to keep it from turning. Anyone got any other Ideas or run across this before? Here is a pic of the tach I have. Ill take some pics tonight. Of the actual Setup.

I used strapping to hold stuff where i want it.
I had smaller tach behind the bezel,till i got a stock setup.
this idea may work for you

Maybe you epoxy strips to the bezel?
And a couple to wrap around it.
The clamp looks like it might be too thick for behind.

Yeah the problem with the clamp is it only clamps the small part and I need to Clamp the big part to hold it in the bezel. It was suggested to make a U bracket like most gauges have and just use sheet metal screws to mount it to the back of the tach to secure it and that might work but I really dont wanna drill or screw into it without knowing whats behind it. Thats why I was thinking a couple hose clamps together around the big part of the tach behind the bezel then maybe some epoxy to hold it in but still debating. Also had the idea of epoxying a strip of aluminum to the back then making 2 L shaped brackets with a screw to hold them on each side.

Its too late now, since you cut the back side of your bezel, but surface mounted...they will be angled downward, and you might not be too pleased when installed in the truck.

Here is one of the bezels I built for a customer...angle is factory and full gauge face is visible when driving the truck.

Thats nice!! Mine was already cut by the PO and had 3 different gauges and burnt wiring from the manual temp gauge and oil from the oil pressure gauge so I didnt mine hacking it up even more. Besides I have another just like it and Its not like its an everyday driver. LOL. Out of curiosity what would one like that run?

The carbon fiber gauges were likely around $800, the laser cut mounting brackets and all labor to build is $250.

Its definatley nice and if it were a daily driver it would be worth it but im sure whats killing the idea is the fact you can go with dakota digital VHX gauges for 700ish now and get electric everything and no cutting or fitting. Thats what i plan to do for my dually when i do my 8.1L install.

My idear worked. didn't even need epoxy. Its very snug and wont move a bit. Looks weird without matching speedo but hey its on a budget. lol

Cool ,give it a couple of weeks you prob wont notice,or start savin for the matching speedo
