1981 Bench seat track

I need a drivers side bench seat track. You know, the adjustable part of the seat. Mine broke near the back of the track, leaving me with an ejectable seat when you hit the brakes.

Anybody know what years the 1981 was interchangeable with other years?

Anyone have an old bench seat out of an '81 just lying around?

I believe 73-87 will all interchange. The earlier years have the seat adjuster on the side though. Your best bet is the salvage yards for a seat or tracks. I just picked up an 84 seat for $50 and still had the tracks on it. Go to car-part.com, put in your search and it will find whatever you need. When I did a search on my seat. It came back with about 50 places and 5 were within 1hr drive.

to answer the one question you can use any 73-87 track out of a pickup or crew cab if youre looking for one from a board member please make a classified ad in that section

No, not exactly true. I pulled one out of a 76 the other day to find it is not the same.

That's why I was asking exactly what year was the same as the '81? Don't want to spend all day walking around a salvage yard to find the magic part. If I knew what years were the same part, I could then place an ad looking for those years to broaden my search.
And already did a search of the yards around here and no '81's to be found within 50 miles. Hence, why asking what other years were the same. Maybe I could find an '82 if I knew it was the same.

What was different from the 76 is the way it attaches to the seat bottom and that handle was mounted on the side (totally different mechanism)..

Re: 1981 Bench seat track

81 up to 87 your good for sure. I did a search in Iowa and found 4 places for tracks. And then another search for seats and found 8 places.

Just search for 81-87 C10 Trucks and then for Seat tracks front. If you just get the tracks, they may just ship them for you. The seat on the other hand would be pick-up only. But again, search 81-87 Chevy trucks and then front seat.

http://www.car-part.com

I was having the same issue finding a seat until I found this site and low & behold I found 9 seats in Ohio and the one I got was 45 mins away. I called and they removed it, just had to go pick it up. Ohio doesn't have any salvage yards you can walk. You have to call and they will tell what they have. But this web-site helps with finding one closest to you.

Re: 1981 Bench seat track

That's what I needed to know, that the 81-87 is interchangeable. I could only find an '81 that was 3 hours away (Minneapolis).

Now, I can find one an hour away. Actually there is one 15 minutes from our vacation home. So looks like I am going to the lake this weekend.

Thanks for the information and the help.

Glad to hear you could find one. Was it just the tracks or did you find a seat?

No, just the tracks. I already have the seat in pretty good shape, so I didn't want to spend any more money than I had to.
