Re: What is it titled as? Chassis swap question
Something else you may want to check out
If you have the VIN number there's companies who can create a new title for you. It costs about $350 or so but from what I hear it works. Here's a couple, http://www.getnewtitle.com/ http://www.titlerecovery.com/ |

Re: What is it titled as? Chassis swap question
Actually I would be surprised if anything was entered into the computer concerning the truck , computers only give out what was put in. and then how many operating systems and file updates has there been since then? It probably was DOS at that time.
If the state issues a title for it bonded, or salvaged its legal. but I would explore all options, starting with the simplest first. |

Re: What is it titled as? Chassis swap question
Bonded title is prob the easiest. Just get a bill of sale with vin number from truck. I bought a 69 impala from a storage building auction for $5 4-5 years ago and got a bonded title on it for around $400. That was tiltle transfer and tags included.

Re: What is it titled as? Chassis swap question
One thing for sure is you want it titled as what it appears to be. Mine sits on an'03 chassis, if it was titled as an '03 it would surely rise a red flag if I get pulled over just a random spot check. Now '47 to '53 should be fine.

Re: What is it titled as? Chassis swap question
I'd still check with the DMV, Not the license office down on the corner but go into the state dmv office or go to a state inspection station if they have one and ask about titling the truck or titling an "assembled" truck.
In truth it is possible that you may be better off if you get the junk yard to write you receipts for individual parts for the truck rather than a complete truck. or list out individual parts on the sales receipt such as 1 cab 1 left door 1 right door 1 hood 1 grill 1 left fender 1 right fender 1 bed with fenders. You might even want a separate receipt for the cab and the box and other parts. Make it sound like they may have come off several trucks. A lot of us haul a load or several loads of parts home to begin a project with none of the coming from the same truck. Then when you roll it into be inspected on the S-10 frame you have assembled a truck from parts and didn't just do a body swap. It's going to be a pile of parts sometime in the process anyhow.

Re: What is it titled as? Chassis swap question
In my case I bought a 1947 1 1/2 COE cab with a clear title. The whole truck was available but all I got was the cab. Later I bought an 2003 1500 Silverado to use as a donor, with this I also got a clear title and changed it over to my name. Should I have any issues later, I have clear titles for both trucks in my name. The finished product is titled as a '47 Chevy truck and as far as the DMV knows it's stock. In SC we don't need a state inspection when swapping a title. From day 1 to current.
Hope it helps, Rob

Re: What is it titled as? Chassis swap question
I have done some digging for info , apparently I can get an indemnity bond for $125 and get it titled as long as it wasn't BRANDED salvage, parts , abandoned, junked etc.
