Re: TPI in my 51 GMC

The intake will limit power. The main factor is the small runner size which limits airflow. A smaller displacement engine will run to higher rpm, 5200 or so with a 302, while a 383 can see a peak as low as 4200. There is an aftermarket version of the TPI based on a system by Airsensors / F.I.R.S.T. which will support more power / higher rpm but they're spendy. They were offered as a standalone system with a fuel only computer and were also sold through B&M as "Superjection."

Leftover NOS from this defunct company was for sale through a website called auto-nomics but I see they've sold their inventory to first performance. There's plenty of reading on the auto-nomics site and you can view some neat installations and current offerings on the first performance site. Personally I'd use a factory GM ecm with this manifold but standalone kits are available.

Re: TPI in my 51 GMC

I just picked up a 87 350, checked the casting #'s and that and the computer tells me that everything is a 350CI.
The question I have for those of you that have had good luck with them is...... I want to start the engine, but I have no idea which wires I need in the harness I need to start ONLY.
There is a 700R attached to it and all wiring is attached all the way to the computer.

Where do I start ? pun intended!!

Is it removed from the truck? Everything on the engine needs to be plugged in, and there are two 12v wires to the battery. It will run without the O2 sensor, and of course you will need to hotwire a fuel pump.

Thanks, All the connections are still on the engine I have removed the body and front sheet metal so it is just a rolling chassis

Re: TPI in my 51 GMC

Since you say it is an 87, from the picture alone, you will need to add the MAF sensor. ECU has a couple BAT leads and some IGN leads. You can find the wiring diagrams on the web. You will need to know your ECU number to make sure you don't fry something.

Re: TPI in my 51 GMC

No problem, if you are the one taking it apart, you can see where all the wires go. It will really help you if you download the FSM wiring diagrams for the car you are taking it out of.

Re: TPI in my 51 GMC

this is very cool. I have two of these intakes and a harness with computer. I was going to toss them but now maybe not. I started a 42 flatbed that might look cool with this setup. Dont you need the whole gas tank also with a 40 psi fuel pump?
In my 54 I have the whole harness and chassis with the 4l60e and 5.7. Runs great now.

Don't throw them away, somebody could use them! They really do look cool and work well in a truck. I used the original tank, with an inline electric pump.

1project,

I looked at the website, https://www.firstfuelinjection.com/services.html. Man they are pretty proud of those parts! They are expensive.

Re: TPI in my 51 GMC

Yes, they are very expensive. But they are the only long runner, TPI style intake I'm aware of that can produce 500+ hp n/a. And I *believe* they have a vortec base available now. Look at pricing for the stealth ram.

You could always use a stock unit and add turbo / supercharging.
