Just bought this 1987 Square Body

This is the first square body I've owned in a long time. I owned a 78 stepside back in the mid 90's but didn't know as much as I do about trucks as I do now.

That saying I have some questions. I need alot of interior pieces because this thing isn't in good shape dash wise. How do you swap the light dash to a gauge dash? I'll have alot more in the near future.

It will be my daily driver so I need to make it dependable before anything.

Re: Just bought this 1987 Square Body

here are some pics of the wiring, my uncle had bought a 79 and some one put newer interior in it and went from dummy lights to gauges but never rewired it. Just check or run down the wires most should be there but most wont be in the right spot and make sure you know what year of truck you get the gauge dash from. Its time consuming and try not to bend up the metal tabs to much when moving them around in the plug.

I know this has nothing to do with driving your truck but I noticed the front bumper is lower on one side than the other. (Driver side) Make sure all bolts are tight. Might just be bent. Good luck with your old "new" truck.

Been doing a lot of little things to it and haven't updated it much here. Just finished the drop yesterday.

Re: Just bought this 1987 Square Body

I used 2.5 Drop spindles, cut one coil off, and on the rear I used the kit that specialtyretail sells on the parts board. Also had to use shock relocators on the rear.

Nice. A set of 8" wide rear wheels would fatten up that skinny rear look nicely.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: Just bought this 1987 Square Body

I've decided to go with a set of the 20 inch Dodge steel wheels. I've only got one and I'm having to accumulate the other three. I need opinions on what color to paint them. Black, white, or gray (interior color). I'm also going to probably use the rally center cap on them.

Suggestions?
