How about some more info on that truck Texas 1963? How did you obtain the drop, engine, tranny? Or did you post all that somewhere else?

Re: is my cab too far "gone"

Nice truck! About that roof, I would give it a shot. I'm afraid you may blow holes in the metal trying to weld a patch since the metals probably thin. I have an old Sears flux core welder and use .030 for all my sheet metal repairs. I use short zaps and wait to cool to prevent war page, zap again in a few spots, etc... If I were you I would *consider* drilling all spot welds, popping the top off and taking a look before major repair. If everything looks ok you Cana do your repairs, wire wheel, clean, coat with por15 or paint, then zap the roof back on!

Yes, there are something like 100-125 of them all the way around. I have never did a re-skin, but member LT1 Burb has a good write up in his build. I don't know how to post a link to his build.. Sorry! Good luck Shaun

I put some info on the static drop thread and Im keeping the 230 L6 with 2 spd powerglide. If I come across a 292 im gonna hop it up and stick it in but im in no rush. The 230 runs and sounds awesome. 2 in straight pipe single out the back. It rapps!

I think i would be looking for another cab. Aren't you it Texas? That looks worse than a lot of the ones up here. Almost everything you'd need to fix that isn't repopped so you'd have to use a donor cab anyways.

I agree...if the bottom half of the cab looks like the roof, I'd look for a donor cab.

Re: is my cab too far "gone"

You would think that, but the rest of the cab is solid. It sat for 8 years under a tree and was covered in green moss when bought it over a month ago from a buddy.

Re: is my cab too far "gone"

some careful cutting and you can put the whole roof on ,just cutting across the windshield posts and across the rear window .... I have seen it done , just have to measure real carefully ....

Re: is my cab too far "gone"

If the bottom is solid, then a roof swap would be the way to go if you can handle the welding aspect of it.

Re: is my cab too far "gone"

Well I ended up cutting out the worst rust there is. There are some other rust issues around where I cut this section out but am going to address them later as this is the worst one. I also made a replacement piece.

Re: is my cab too far "gone"

I am with Texas 1963. Clean it up best you can . roloc disc are very good at difficult areas . Rust Bullet is the newest rust preventative paint . Application is like Por-15 was 20 years ago. You can paint and bondo right over it. I always use fiberglass reinforced filler for first coat because it is waterproof . less chance of any future problems.

Agree with above, repair what you can, coat what you can't get to, filler, drive, enjoy.
