The Ol' turbo truck feature article
https://theblock.com/news/nate-hines...d-lm7-1970-c10
I had a blast on Power Tour, and I'm humbled and surprised theblock.com picked my truck for a feature article. A professional photographer sure can make anything look incredible! Posted via Mobile Device Last edited by Heavymetl; 06-22-2015 at 08:40 AM. |

Re: The Ol' turbo truck feature article
I like how you used a contrasting color tailgate for desired effect from the rear
Love the '52 car style caps. Love the whole thing!

Re: The Ol' turbo truck feature article
Thanks everyone!
I don't have many videos yet, which is a shame. Here's a burnout video from the photoshoot. It's just a sorta weak 1st gear only heater. If I had a chance to do it over again I'd get it into third and really let it smoke! Seriously, this thing will smoke the tires for as long as you want. Even from a 50mph roll in 2nd gear, it'll break em loose and the rear will fishtail. I'm looking forward to mounting the drag radials and gaining some actual usage of the power. We've all read about the turbo LS, but after having one for a couple months now I can tell you straight up, they're truly formidable. The torque made on boost is just insane. My truck dyno'd 480tq at the rear wheels on only 9lbs of boost. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=260JllYqr2c I didn't do a build thread, even though I probably should have at least made an effort. I guess since this wasn't my first build, I just didn't think of it being special enough to document every step. I just wanted to focus on the task and hand and get to the driving/using/Power Tour part of the project!

The tailgate....well, it looked good enough so I just went with it. I actually painted the bed to match and used a flat clear coat. The local paint mixer specialist really nailed the blend!

Re: The Ol' turbo truck feature article
Heavymetl. Have a question for ya. You don't happen to know anybody that hit a deer in a 67-72 on the power tour a couple years back? I picked up a door and rad support for my old man's c10 and the guy I got it from was from beaver if I remember correct but hell that's ben couple years ago lol just wondering if that was you.

Re: The Ol' turbo truck feature article
Cool. Pretty sure I saw your truck a couple of times. There were some pretty cool C10s on the tour. I was in my 65 Mustang this year. Mustang Monthly stopped us for a quick interview, but we'll likely only have a few inch square with a couple sentences.
I short hauled the first couple legs last year and did the full long haul this year... 3,424 miles. It's addicting. Sucks I only have 2 weeks for sick/vac time every year...

It drives about a thousand times better than stock. I enjoyed the 250/TH350 combo, so much so my mantra for the build was "do no harm to the driveability". With the turbo LS, 4 wheel discs, 4L80E, and EFI it drives really well and requires no other switches than the key to start. Besides the the power, the best part about a turbo build is it's still a basically stock running engine when not in boost, so I can still drive it everywhere like a grocery getter and parts hauler. Big shout out to classic heartbeat to for the Redhead steering gear. I can't say enough good things about that steering box.
