'66 C30 Dually- a relic from "Brandenburg Farms"

After nearly two years of bantering, I purchased this beauty from a co-worker for $450. This truck was bought new in my hometown, and spent the first 20 years or so of its life in a barn, only out in the weather when it was hauling a load. My co-worker then bought it from the original owner sometime in the 80's and worked it on his farm. Hauling hay, logs, fertilizer, lime, etc. He even took it on a few trips on the interstate. With the original 292, SM420, and very deep rear gears I'd say it was wound pretty tight. He kept it in his barn for sometime, but eventually began letting it sit outside.

Sometime in the 90's the 292 was replaced with a 250. A can of mosquito repellant exploded in the hot sun and busted the windsheild. Eventually, the old truck was parked under a tree and left to sit.

I'm hoping to have it back on the road eventually. I've already cleaned the old truck up some, got that rotted bed off, and got it running. Will update with progress.

What a gorgeous looking find !!

I know some people never "get" barn or field finds, but I get excited every time I see one and start imagining it running as is, or restored to various standards.

Neat photos too.

Look forward to more updates.

Re: '66 C30 Dually- a relic from "Brandenburg Farms"

I swapped the gas tank out with one from a old wrecker we had. The tank in this truck had holes rusted in the top somehow, and was full of thick black gas. I also replaced all the fuel lines except the one from the pump to the carb because they were gummed up.

I also went through the ignition, new points, condenser, etc. I've got a rebuilt 1bbl leftover from a previous project I'm going to put on it as well.

Plans are pretty much like all my other projects, get it running and stopping reliably, better tires, and drive it! Going to redo the wooden flat. Definitely planning on getting a windshield.

I have a line on a '80 something model dually C30 front crossmember, having trouble finding a dually rear, but I know their out there. Would like to swap over to disc brakes and one piece rims if I could. Because this old truck needs brakes anyway. I think the two piece wheels do look pretty neat though with all the holes in them. I would like to keep the manual steering If I could, but not really sure what assortment of steering linkage I would need to go to the later style front end.
