Re: 1986 nissan 300ZX-V8 Swap

Modified the stock crossmember by removing the factory motor mount plates. Still need to sand blast the assembly than refit in the car to fab up my V8 motor mounts.

Yes more fitment testing. The exhaust pieces will not be permanent they just happened to be the correct length for this mock up. My fabrication skills are not the best so I am waiting for a more adept friend to come approve my setup before final welding.

Motor is a 4 bolt main 350 that has a mild truck cam in it and thats about it for now. This years plans are to clean and paint the engine and just get the car driving again. The motor may see a little nitrous as well depending on how things go. Now future plans are to be determined but boost would be nice.

Very nice work so far. Can't wait to see this thing run.
Oh, and for anyone else who still might doubt the torque capacity of the stock R200 diff that came in Slofarmtruck's car, check out one of the pics from HybridZ.org that pops up whenever rear end strength is questioned:

Re: 1986 nissan 300ZX-V8 Swap

I love V-8 Z-cars! I have been wanted to do one for years. For the amount of money you'll have into the car vs. the performance, you can't beat it!

I'm a fan of the 240s and 260s, and after I'm done with a few projects, I'll be on the hunt for an early Z and an LS motor to do my swap.

Re: 1986 nissan 300ZX-V8 Swap

Completely forgot about this thread and I deeply apologize! Yes this car was completed and was promptly sold as I picked up a much cleaner '85 300ZX. The '85's stock motor was built and boosted until it blew up so a V8 swap is in the works for it as well. This time I am building a TPI 350 with a Holley Stealth Ram intake and it will be controlled with the Holley HP self learning EFI setup. My motor is at the machine shop getting finished up and it is a basic 355 with some ported Pro Comp aluminum heads that should be good for mid 400 hp plus a little nitrous.

Here is a video of the '86 Z running.
and being driven by the guy I sold it too. I have no idea why he spaced the hood up as it wasn't required to clear anything.

Here is my Stealth Ram intake for the new build that was painstakingly prepped and painted by a good friend of mine.

and the car itself
