help with an alternator bracket.

Hey Guys and gals. I have a 68 gmc 3/4 that had a cracked ramhorn on it. I purchased headers for it and then realized I have nowhere to install the alternator. I have looked at some of the corvette alternator brackets but I am not sure which one would fit and don't want to have to send one back. Can someone point me to the right bracket?

Thanks all/

Re: help with an alternator bracket.

I am using the stock alternator bracket on my 1972 C15. Engine is a 350 with Hedman Hedders. Unless your earlier C25 has different brackets on it.

Re: help with an alternator bracket.

I will follow along on this as my 68 also had cracked manifolds so now has headers. I have seen low mounted brackets from Speedway that mounts down low. Not sure if they will work. on mine I am not even sure if the original motor will stay yet so haven't got that far or too concerned yet. Soon though.

Gary
did yours not bolt to the exhaust manifold? Mine bolts to the head and the exhaust manifold I believe.

Mine bolts straight to the head only.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Google... Tim Moore alternator bracket ..it may be what you need to go to if you have no mounting holes in the head..

Re: help with an alternator bracket.

I believe the earlier trucks had the ram horn bracket the latter had the head bracket like shown above in post 6, as long as its a short water pump engine the head brackets should work for you, you can look on flea bay, or here in the parts board, or a local junk yard for the head brackets. the bracket shown oin post 9 is headers only.

Re: help with an alternator bracket.

68's don't have bolt holes if the face of the heads like the later trucks do. I am considering swapping heads so I can get the bolt holes and the brackets.

Re: help with an alternator bracket.

I also seem to remember the 68 came with the short style water pump and from 69 up the went to the long style this can also cause issues on V pulley alignment

Re: help with an alternator bracket.

make sure you get water pump alternator ps and dampner pulleys as well because mis matched between years is a slippery slope with an open can of worms at the bottom. better to locate the exhauste manifold then to chase heads and every thing else.

The short water pump went till 72, the long water pump went 73 and up.

Not sure of the pullys were changed for any reason, but i think the easiest way to check would be to measure the depth of the water pump pulleys from a 67-68 vs 69-72. That said the early power steering pump pulley is different from the later i'm thinking 67 and 68, it would be a cast iron pully, the later is stamped steel.
