New Hood Inquire from AMD

I inquired on why 62-66 Hoods are not re-popped from AMD (Auto Metal Direct) and received this reply from them”
“We get this question from time to time. The simple answer is that there’s not enough demand for this item. We might have 5-6 people a year inquire looking for this hood. It’s too expensive to develop a part that will not sell well. I’m sorry I don’t have better news. Thanks for checking with us.
Auto Metal Direct”

So there isn’t much demand for them? I know mine is a beater.

Re: New Hood Inquire from AMD

Just curious - What would people be willing to pay for a new hood?
I would think a new hood would be $600-$800

Re: New Hood Inquire from AMD

If they would do some market research they would find the true demand. Just going by request is not so good of an indicator. I wonder how many folks search google for a hood for these trucks? I bet the number is more than 5 or 6.

Re: New Hood Inquire from AMD

My biggest concern would be that they fit like most of the other aftermarket panels........

Re: New Hood Inquire from AMD

Finding a good used hood with minor body work is not that hard. Which is probably why there is not a big demand for them. If every hood on the 60-66 truck was rotted out they would have been making repop hoods Years ago. When I bought my 64 chevy for parts for my 66 the 64's hood only needs a small patch in the rear and some minor bondo work....That's Not that hard and much cheaper then the money it would take to purchase a repop hood and no one mentioned the shipping bill either.

Re: New Hood Inquire from AMD

I have a 62-66 hood that's free to anyone (pick up only) and that's the problem, shipping it is a pain and $$$. would have to build a crate and use tk freight.

It is not that bad. I bought one from a forum member and he shipped it from CA to SC via Greyhound, for around $130. It arrived safely, wrapped in what appeared to be old carpet padding and secured with loads of plastic packing wrap. It took forever to cut all the plastic wrap and padding off the hood, but it did a great job protecting the hood on its cross-country ride.

Re: New Hood Inquire from AMD

You may be able to find them on the west coast but on the east coast and through out the rust belt they are few and far between.

Sounds like a package from Perro.....have received a few items wrapped the same and that stuff does a great job of protecting parts.

Indeed, it was. I was very pleased with how well it was wrapped, and with how reasonable it was to ship a hood across the country underneath a bus.
