I can't seem to get my column adjusted properly on my 62 K-10. Has anyone else had this problem?

As far as I can tell this sleeve or spacer looks to be the problem. Does anyone has their column apart? maybe verify the placement or measurement? I installed the steering wheel without the sleeve which took care of the gap but the wheel has some movement or play and blows the horn when I turn sharp. With the sleeve installed I don't have the play but I have the gap and my turn signals won't cancel and the horn doesn't work at all.

I don't remember seeing this part in either of my 63 columns....maybe the 60-62's only? I know they had much different turn signal mechs.

I just posted in a more recent thread on columns.
These things are a a pain to get correct.
What page of the assembly manual are you looking at?
We sure could use a FAQ or a whole thread with pics.
Who has 1 of every style original 60-66 column broke down for pics??
1 of the pics included in this thread is 67-72. Nothing like the 66
I actually think that the correct upper bearing is no longer available. I just tried 2 bearings that are this style (horn wire attached) and neither worked for me.

I know what you mean about the reproduction bearings. I bought a NOS one thinking it might fix the problem, It was a much nicer part but I still have the gap. My truck had a few GMC parts on it when I bought it which could be my problem.

The gap is caused by the whole column jacket being too far down the shaft.
(1) loosen all the steering column bracket bolts
(2) loosen the column hanger bolt on the engine side of the firewall
(3) loosen the spring clamp on the shaft
(4) loosen or remove the little bolt that hold the column jacket to the steerring bracket, L side of the bracket
Wiggle the whole jacket up until you get the clearance you want. Make it all tight.
Sometimes you need to remove the steering wheel and take the spring off the top bearing in order to move the jacket
There are so many column variations that they are a PITA
I am actually using a 62 powerglide jacket and shifter with a 63 upper bearing/turn signal switch, and the same bearing you are using, which has to be shimmed to get a snug fit. I wanted to use a 66 turn signal switch, but it won't fit in the powerglide shifter casting
I thin this is why so many guys use something else.
My favorite option is a 67-72 non tilt column jacket complete, which will slide right down the shaft. You do have to use a later wheel as well, as the turn signal cancelers won't interchange.
