but the history is pretty interesting. WWII saw the Nazi's occupying Norway, what concerned the Allies was Hitlers nuclear projects and his use of Norwegian Hydro electric Dams in his making of "Heavy water" a "secret" operation was launched which involved the "10th Mountain rangers" specially trained mountain warrior based in Colorado and the development of a new vehicle. it had a very particular set of Specs, one being overland travel in snow and another being it had to fit in the cargo Glider enabling air insertion in secret, the weasel was developed but before we could mount an operation the British developed the DAM BUSTER bomb under the Lancaster bomber and took care of the mission. So the weasel was Given a special float tank on either end and rudders making it truly amphibious ( with out the tanks the float but just barely ) it then saw use in about every theater as a general transport and especially useful at towing artillery pieces on beachheads and muddy area's. after the war some were refurbed and keep in service into Korea, most were farmed out to other governmental agencies ( NOOA, etc) they sent some to Anartica and many to Alaska for weather research. here is a video ( short portion of the US army presentation that I paraphrased above ... wish I could find the long version) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94xw1qxeVCU and here is a video of a very nice restored model doing its thing in civilian hands in Sweden. https://youtu.be/0RSUF5U4OAU I tried several times to embed those..... I failed so I included the links....if anyone would like to fix it please feel free. Last edited by greywuuf; 06-25-2015 at 04:02 PM. |

Re: Do they have to be Road vehicles ?
this is hull # 3 it is fairly complete, #1 has a good running engine but no undercarriage, # 2 has a complete under carriage but no engine or transmission. this should allow me to fairly original ones and a third to repower ( most likely a 4.3 and auto transmission from my S-10 )
