1971 K5 , Broke Front Axles Help, interchange.

both fronts are broke at the u-joints.... Have heard from a few people you can use newer ones? same spline??? upgrade??? there an interchange chart?
Any help would be appreciated ! Thanks.

73 up will swap right in. I have always used them in mine. They use a bigger joint and are a beefier axle.

nice!!! so if i have3 some out of a 79 k10 they will swap in?

79's would be from a 10 bolt axle and the inner axles won't fit a Dana 44. The outer stub axle will fit though. From what I have seen, they started using the bigger axle joints in mid 72. In mid 77, they started using 10 bolt axles.

Maybe not, check the u-joint size. The early 44s had a 260 u-joint that had 1-1/16 caps and the later models were 1-3/16 which is a spicer 5-760x.

From late 72 (2nd design) up through 1991 in the blazer and suburbans took the larger joint, 44 and 10 bolt

yes but worst case i can get adapter joint... i just have the 79 outers already.
