197? gmc 5500 need help and info

Hi everyone, haven't been on here for a while but, just down the road from me there is a unknown year, gmc c5500 chevy 350 v8 and 4 speed (2 speed rear end) For all you other owners of either gmc or chevy heavy haulers, where are you getting parts? I have no idea where to look, and ive googled gmc c5500 parts but everything is for the newer models knowing the exact year would be nice. I went right down the frame with a hammer, and surprisingly, it is very solid there are 57000 miles on it and there is a considerable amount of cab rust but that doesn't bother me, easy to fix. What should i look for on these trucks that are known to fail/break/rust out? I did start it, it ran for about a minute and then i shut it off, went to restart it and nothing, think it's a loose wire, didn't crank over at all. It's on a little hill right next to a main road and there is no brake pressure so i wasn't going to attempt to move it Also, what would you pay for something like this, i talked to her about 3 months ago, and she said something like $1000 obo so im thinking in my head that means $500 We'll see. One more thing, there is the 2 speed selector switch on the shift arm, but what is the othere lever, a parking brake? couldn't figure it out. (Should be third picture) Here r some pics:

The VIN should tell you but it's obviously not a -5 or -3 so I don't know ...

On second look, it must be 68-72 because it has the marker light.

Yes that looks like a parking brake lever, wheels and tires are an issue....if the tires are good that is a big plus....if not (as in unsafe as is) point out that the size is almost special order and no one (no big names anyway) make tube type 20" tires anymore, and few will even deal with multi piece wheels. It might help you negotiate a price.....

Also what type of brakes does it have... If "standard" parts are pretty easy...."hydrovac" are a bit harder.

That truck is well worth $750.

Also on the VIN, I always had a hard time finding info on '67 to '72 GMC Medium and Heavy trucks, but after a little researching, I believe the truck is a '72.

I found one place showing a truck with a "V" and it was listed as a 1972.

Keep us posted if you buy it.

By the way, that is the Parking Brake Lever as Dan has mentioned. The Knob will also turn on it and that is an In-Cab Adjuster.
