Building a Tach Dash

I like the idea of having a tach dash in my '84 K30. Finding a complete tach dash in good shape is non existent. With a price tag of $250-300 there's still the chance the used one might not work. LMC offers tachs, small fuel gauge, tach wire/instillation kit, and new tach dash printed circuit all for less than $200. Has anyone here gone this route or tried the tachs from LMC?

Keep your clock, there's an easier route.

Re: Building a Tach Dash

I am adding the combination tach and fuel gauge upgrade to the original gauge cluster in my 1986 C10. It was not hard, only needed to make one wire longer, beyond what the instructions said. Not an Autometer Tach, however, nice just a little slow to react to engine RPM changes. Fuel gauge seems to work good too. Have not road tested yet, will do that tomorrow. I got it from a vender recommended by fellow member above, who has a great post on how he did it. I think the vender is GM Sport in CA. Definitely recommend this approach too.

Plan to have it all done tomorrow.

I agree with bruiser . The gm sports tack was the way to go for me . Mine works great .

Re: Building a Tach Dash

I found someone parting out a C70 on craigslist and pulled the tach cluster for $40! really nice shape and everything worked. Only goes up to 5k however which is a issue with my 5.3L swap now.

That was another reason I went with gm sports tach . I have a ls2 in mine and pull it to 6200 rpm . The good news is if you have a good working cluster you could sell it and make a few bucks . That would go a long way to a the gm sports tach for your 5.3 .

Re: Building a Tach Dash

I installed a GM CD player in my 86 K10 so I don't use the factory clock-however in the future the sport tach install is the way to go. LMC offers all the parts except for the correct tach housing!! Erf....I imagine if they did make a tach specific housing they'd never sell the rest of their non-tach parts...lol
