Thoughts on truck color and 'modern' headlight design
Hey all,
Recently had a forum member do some 3d modeling for my project. Thought I'd get some feedback on the designs. My approach to my project is really taking the classic lines and features and merging things with new technology, so I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea and I respect that. Here is what I'm going for: 1. Outer lights are both Hi and Low HID projectors. 2. Inner lights are just Halos, and inside it's tubing that feeds into a dual intake track, somewhat like the new Challenger Hellcats. 3. The turn signals will be the stock housing, but inside will be daytime white LED running lights that will shut off when orange LED running lights are activated for the turn signal. The rest is fairly stock looking at the moment, but also curious about what color of the three I had rendered you guys like the most. 1. Yellow was the 'original' (to me) color. I would likely add blue flames like it was in highschool. 2. Blue. It's a slightly darker version of the grabber blue from the Mustang I had. 3. Dark charcoal grey. I really like this color, but a lot of my past vehicles have been this color. Part of me wants to do dark grey and carbon fiber parts, and part of me wants it to be bright and cheery. Here are the renders. Let me know what you think of the colors and light setup. Yellow Blue Charcoal |

I like it! Think it looks cool. Also the charcoal is my favorite. I would have painted my 65 GMC that color but it usually has a lot of metallics and I was afraid it would streak since I am the painter. Lol

I like all three! I like the Yellow the best in the renderings. But I think seeing it on an actual truck I might like the charcoal better. I like the lights.

Re: Thoughts on truck color and 'modern' headlight design
All the colors and angles look great, but since black has always been my personal favorite I'd have to go with the charcoal. Each of these is worthy of an expensive frame and hanging on a wall of honor somewhere.
And the lights are an interesting concept, if you can find any round hi/lo lamps that will fit in the smaller openings of a 4 lamp system.

Re: Thoughts on truck color and 'modern' headlight design
My 1st pick is yellow (no flames) without a doubt. My second choice is blue. But thats just me. I agree with Markeb, those renderings are top notch.

Re: Thoughts on truck color and 'modern' headlight design
I like the blue. I like the charcaol too but doing enough bodywork to have the finished product actually LOOK like that would be insanity, I would never leave the house.
I think the modern lights with halos and projectors look terrible and detract from the classic look of the truck. and I love modern stuff. just my crappy opinion though

i really dig the charcoal one. i think if your gonna go with a modern look the wheels would have to change, maybe a oversized rally, just my thoughts

Re: Thoughts on truck color and 'modern' headlight design
No worries. I'll likely be going with projectors regardless of whether or not I do the intake and halos. I live surrounded by country and halogen and my fading night vision just don't cut it anymore. Appreciate the opinion though

siggyfreud you have dilemma, making a decision. All 3 look great, but any one of those choices won't be the wrong one.

Re: Thoughts on truck color and 'modern' headlight design
I prefer the darker charcoal with the headlight treatment. All look amazing, and I really like the blue, but I think the darker color seems to go with the center lights being removed more for some reason. I think the new lights could turn out really nice, but it is going to take some work. I've seen some that hang way out in front and look horrible. I'm not really a fan of halos, but removing the center lights is kind of trick.

Re: Thoughts on truck color and 'modern' headlight design
I really like the blue the best! What is the actual name of that blue you have? I'm looking a changing my satin to a gloss and looking at different blues.

Re: Thoughts on truck color and 'modern' headlight design
Not sure what the name of that blue is to be honest. I was going for Ford's Grabber Blue, but it came out a bit darker. Will try and find out what it is.
Yeah the headlights will take some work, but hoping I can fab something up or prototype a bezel of some kind that will work. Though it'll certainly be different I don't want it to look hacked together. |

Re: Thoughts on truck color and 'modern' headlight design
I like the blue myself! on the turn signals is the white led going to be on top then the amber leds be on bottom or ?? I like your idea better then just the amber lens led turn signals they offer for the chevy hood, I wish they had a clear lens with amber leds an I would buy a set or too!

Re: Thoughts on truck color and 'modern' headlight design
The turn signal will be amber leds that take up the rest of the area that the white ones don't fill. They'll hide behind a clear lens which is hard to see in the renders. Will look fairly stock when off. Will only notice the difference when the truck is running is the plan.

Re: Thoughts on truck color and 'modern' headlight design
When I saw the thread title 'Modern Headlight Design', I knew I wasn't going to like it. But then I opened the thread and was pleasantly surprised.
Very Nice!

Re: Thoughts on truck color and 'modern' headlight design
Trying not to ditch the retro style entirely, but definite going for something that functions better than the original halogens, and looks unique. Hopefully I can achieve it. Appreciate the comment and glad it wasn't as bad as you expected .

Re: Thoughts on truck color and 'modern' headlight design
How much would a set of those projector lights cost?
I vote Charcoal.

Although I like blue, I vote for the goldish yellow.
