I've run a bicycle cable lock with a pad lock. Paint it black and no one will ever see it, but it is a real PITA when it is raining or snowing and you need to open her up.

i have a link out of a chain welded to the hood and a hole on the radiator support that the link goes through and when the hood is shut there is just enough of the chain link sticking out to put a padlock on. it was there before my grandfather got the truck

My hood on the 78 came up on me twice once on the fn highway
So I said enough of this junk. The latch once worn is a engineering f up! So I drilled two holes through the hood(it is damaged by now any hoot!) and got some 1/2" treaded rod to stick up and through. It amazed me that there is factory holes in the right spot on the rad support.
And two 17mm nuts and two sheet metal washers to hold her down
Now it will never come up again and U need a 17mm wrench to get at it!

It's time to visit your local auto recycler and find a cable actuated latch that will work.Maybe you can find one that will fit and mount where you can lock it or inside so the truck door locks keep the hood locked too.

I like your idea, jcueckert13. The cable idea is good, but a thief can get into these trucks in 30 seconds, and then your hood latch is right there. I plan to put a padlock on my hood, then put an inline switch on my battery. Then I can turn off the power and lock the hood and there is no way it will start.... so the crooks will end up like this.....
