72 bucket seat repair help needed
I have a nice pair of bucket seats that have really nice original covers but one has two broken or loose metal peices poking up into the cover. The other seat has one poking up. They aren't Poked through the cover yet. Any advice on the best means of repair for this? Thanks

i'm not an upholsterer but am pretty sure the first thing you should do is remove the covers to get at the problem, then go from there.

Re: 72 bucket seat repair help needed
I talked to an upholsterer and he mentioned that the wires do not take a weld very good. Thought that I would ask here first.
Here is a bottom view. |

Re: 72 bucket seat repair help needed
There are 2 horizontal wires on each side of the seat cushion... one under the foam and one on the top of the foam. They are connected through the foam with some wire clips that look a lot like paperclips to form the bolsters by pulling the wires closer together. The horizontal wires wires should be bent back on themselves to form a loop at each end. From your picture it appears that the clips may not be attached. Can you feel what seems to be rounded ends on the wires?

take it to any local auto interior shop, they should be able to fix it in 20 minutes while you wait for a few bucks and they have the correct "hog rings " to do it right .
