Heater removal + delete plate plans?
Anyone got like ... a computer template for the heater delete plate on a non-A/C truck (68)?
Just curious ... I'd like to save time if possible. Also, if anyone has any tips regarding removal of the unit under the dash, I'm all ears. I see all the bolt holes on the firewall, but the bolts appear to be studs I'm sure it might be easy, just looking for any tips from someone who's done it before I start.

Re: Heater removal + delete plate plans?
Use the heater box from under the hood for a template. Then just bolt it up like the original.Unless you are going for a smoothed firewall.

Re: Heater removal + delete plate plans?
I was going to buy the covers off ebay, but the body shop that has my cab simply cut the section out, laid it on a piece of sheetmetal, traced it, cut, and welded it. Looks good to me.

Re: Heater removal + delete plate plans?
I am going for a smoothed firewall on that side and I do not have a welder. I've removed the blower and core, don't plan on re-adding it. I am going aftermarket when I have the cash.
I was looking for a simple bolt-on solution for the time being.

Re: Heater removal + delete plate plans?
In that case, I'd use the heater housing as a template...I think someone mentioned that. Just get a body shop or metal shop to cut you a piece. Drill the holes for the housing to bolt up and use some sheetmetal screws to attach...paint as desired.

Re: Heater removal + delete plate plans?
I can use a jigsaw to cut it. I'll try your suggestion.

Ihave some black plexi downstairs. Might just use that temporarily.
As for welding, I'm shopping for one right now, just haven't bought it yet

Heres my $100 semi smooth fire wall. Need a heater of some sort up here in the great white north though.

Re: Heater removal + delete plate plans?
Hey Deuce, what are you using for a heater core and blower? Did you weld a plate over where the blower motor used to be?

Re: Heater removal + delete plate plans?
Using a heater I bought a a local farm supply store. I little black box,if you will. Has a blower motor built into the box.
I drilled holes in the plate the counter sunk the holes and used pan head(?) screws and seam sealer. No welding incase I change my mind.

Re: Heater removal + delete plate plans?
Heres a pic from the inside of the truck with the heater and speaker installed. And I still have a un-modded glovebox.

Re: Heater removal + delete plate plans?
That black box looks like what we have in the forklift at work. If its a similar setup, it will put out SERIOUS heat. It's real nice when lumber trucks arrive in -30.

Re: Heater removal + delete plate plans?
It probally is the same thing and it does put out alot of heat for the size. As much as the stocker I would say.

Re: Heater removal + delete plate plans?
Bringing an old thread up from the past....
Does anyone have a picture or information on the "little black box heater" like Deuce had. I would assume that this might be 12V instead of heated by the engine coolant? I am looking for heater core alternatives because the originals seem to go out too often for how hard they are to get to. Im going to send a pm to Deuce (not sure if he is still around). Thanks Eric
