Short Water pump connections

OK guys...heres another of my stupid questions, BTW you guys have been a great help in this project thanks!! OK hre goes, on a short water pump on a 71 C10 1/2 ton 2WD wit a 350 i noticed that the water pump has two threaded holes, now i know one of them and im assuming the top one is for the heater core hose, but what is the bottom one for?? and if its not used can i just plug it??? Ive attached a labeled picture so hopefully it will make it easier to explain. Thanks in advance

I would personaly plug the top one and run the heater from the side, it would keep the hose off the top of the engine and give a less cluttered look.

The water pump is for a late model SBC. the top is for the intake manifold. I went through this with my sons car, Thought OK just plug the top get it all bolted on and painted orange and then none of the pulleys would mount as the shaft is larger than what was on the original 283 so I did not have the time to get a new set of pulleys so I picked up a rebuilt for his car.
If this is all new and you will be running new pulleys just plug the top Big thing there is trying to find the aluminum plug for it so it will look good.

My stock '67 WP was the same way. The top went to a bypass fitting on the t-stat and the side one went to the heater core. I just plugged the top one and ran the heater core on the side one.
