Maybe....
Could be corrosion......or the rods are worn or bent and your not getting the leverage....??????

The pawls are side specific. Could be that someone installed them incorrectly at one time. Mine are totally apart right now or I would send a pic. Also, sometimes the old lithium grease collects alot of dirt and hardens. I have seen that stuff so hard, it closely resembles asphalt. Probably wouldn't hurt to remove the latch mechanisms and run them through the parts washer. After that, blow dry them with compressed air and re-grease them. I would do just one door at a time. It's real easy to mix the linkage rods up.

i installed the paws today.of course you have a 50/50 chance of getting them right the first time.but i did catch it before i tried to install them,so that not it .maybe ill try to remove the lock mechanism.and see what up with it.

I hear ya on the 50/50 chance. Kind of the same thing when you completelt remove the wiper system and it goes together 180 degrees off. I always tell myself I'll mark it this time but you know how that goes. Is it possible to install the lock cylinder upside down?....Just a thought.

dont think i got them in upside down.if they were the paws would run the oppsite way as the lock mechanism.also i think the locks only fit in one way

If my memory serves me right the paws have to fit in a notch to work properly.......
Seems I put them in wrong and they functioned like you mentioned.....actually was binding being in wrong.....
