Talking Time for New Exhaust, Need Opinions!

hey all, time for new exhaust on my 69 k10, there are a couple things i need help deciding about.

1st: i currently have true duel exhaust, and its significantly louder than my friend's single exhaust. I am not such a fan of loud exhaust, and the cab drone is too much to handle. Would it be foolish for me to have them do a single exhaust conversion, as far as milage and performance ? at the shop they were telling me how it takes away 15 hp yadadada.. so would it be worth it to have single exhaust put in, for the noise?

2nd: i currently have no resonators installed, and i was wondering if they would be a factor in reducing cab drone.

Lastly:if anyone can recommend some good quieter mufflers, from 30-70$, please let me know.
thanks men!

Re: Time for New Exhaust, Need Opinions!

where does your exhaust exit? if it dumps under the truck it will have alot of resonance.
you just have to find what you want. If you have duals, a H pipe is supposed to equalize pressures and increase power but i don't have one and its easier to work on this way.
if you want it quieter, put some quieter mufflers on it.

put side pipes on it!!

Re: Time for New Exhaust, Need Opinions!

Timely thread for me. Monday morning my 1972 C10 is going in for a complete exhaust system. My engine is a bone stock original 350 with a 350 auto trans. like you I want it quiet but don't mind a touch of rumble. Getting advice from this site and talking with the folks at my muffler shop I am getting 2 1/4 inch exhaust pipes with an H Pipe ( which produces more torque) and running them right to back. The mufflers will be under the bed of the truck, not the cab. I'm attaching a link to the mufflers ( Dynomax # 17217 ) I will be running and also a picture of a truck with the exhaust exiting the way I want.

Re: Time for New Exhaust, Need Opinions!

The last time I had my exhaust done, I told the guy that I wanted the biggest, quietest mufflers that he could find. He came up with these behemoth 2.5 in / 2.5 out OEM type. They flow fine, and are super quiet. I think this is the one.>https://www.google.com/webhp?sourcei...76307143005387The cadillac only used one.

Re: Time for New Exhaust, Need Opinions!

Timely thread for me as well. I'm having my radiator repaired today, and as soon as it's back in the truck I'll be driving it to a shop to have the exhaust reworked and new mufflers put on it.

Lightbulb Re: Time for New Exhaust, Need Opinions!

stick with the full duals and just use stock replacement mufflers. if your motor is stock or close to it don't go to larger diameter pipe, the OE manifolds are 2 inch anyway and going to larger pipe is a waste of money. exit the pipes out behind the tires or under the bumper and you will be fine. i've been in the same muffler shop for 30+ years and can say you will be happy with this set up. going with too large diameter pipe will kill the low end on a stock motor- the exhaust under my 72 super 4x4 is 2 inch full duals now but i've used it as a test mule for many different set ups and found the dual 2 inch works just fine on a stock motor. the worst set up was 2 1/2 just after the manifolds into a big truck muffler and a single 3 inch tailpipe and the truck was totally gutless on take off and pulling hills.

Re: Time for New Exhaust, Need Opinions!

thanks guys, i ended up going to my local muffler shop and for 250$ they gave me quieter mana flow mufflers, and a whole new exhaust system minus the headers, with an H pipe. felt like money well spend to me, the pipes exit behind the wheels and it rumbles outside with no noise inside. went great! good luck to all you getting new systems !
