New 01 Blazer

I bought this 01 Blazer yesterday for my 15 yr old daughter for $2200.. Its in real great shape and only 98000 miles... I was doing the usual things you do with a new/used car like oil change, rad flush and fill and give if a good inspection. This truck looks like it was kept in real good shape over all.

The one thing I came across today is this smog/air pump behind the front bumper. It has two line going to the block somewhere so Im not sure if it has something to do with EGR. The hose that comes up near the radiator on the passenger side was disconnected. I didnt see where it needed to be connected and im not sure if that unit is working.

Can someone tell me what this part is? Thanks!

Re: New 01 Blazer

I forgot to mention that this is located behind the front bumper on the passenger side.

Re: New 01 Blazer

If it's the one cut off at the 45 degree angle and u shaped at the end, it doesn't get connected.

That is the secondary air injection system. Fresh air is dumped into the exhaust to help burn un burned fuel in exhaust. It runs when the car is first started up and it will shut off after about 30 seconds.

The hose that isn't connected anywhere is the air inlet. The part behind the bumper is the air pump. There are to check valves that prevent exhaust pressure from damaging the pump or the rubber hoses.

It is not related to the EGR system at all.

Nice score on the Blazer! I have a 95 4wd Blazer, I'd like to find a 2wd like yours. That is a nice vehicle.

Thanks! The more I inspect it, the better it looks. It has some cosmetic issues, but for a kids first car, its not too bad. Most of the little scuff marks are coming off with some compound. It was an older guy that owned it and it looks to be well maintained too. The underneath is almost spotless!
