almost complete with disc brake conversion..need help please!
hey guys...so i am almost done with my front disc brake conversion on my 68'. I have completed the whole front disc to go with the 2 in lowering spindles. I have changed out the upper and lower ball joints so far.
but have a few questions: 1)what type of brake master and booster do i get now? LMC has the booster that is saying something about radical cams and blowers and i'm not sure if thats the right one i should be getting? 2)also i need to change out the outter tie rod because it seems to small to fit the new spindle. Do i go with a '71 outter tie rod? 3)and the brake line to the new caliper does not match the old brake line hookup. is there an adapter or conversion for that? Thanks! |

did you use 71 72 calipers? if so youll need the soft lines from the 71/72 half ton. youll also have to get a booster and master cyl from a 71-72 as well as the front hard lines and the prop valve.
youll also have to change pretty much the whole steering rack from 71-72 as well, the center link has a different mount angle and the outer tie rods wont work in a 71-72 spindle. theres alternatives on the links from cpp but if youre wanting to get parts from o'reillys or pep boys or smeplace easy, this is the way to go. Once again, this is all relevant if you are running 71-72 drop spindles and brake caliipers. youll also notice the tab where you mount the brake soft line changed as well when you switch the brake hardlines. just cut off the tab and weld it in the new position. youll need to switch the hardlines because the fittings are going to be different now on everything except for the rear lines where the coupler is in the passenger frame rail by the front shock mount

Tie rods HAVE to match the year of spindle you are using.
What YEAR drop spindles did you order? What year balljoints are you using? EVERYTHING has to match the spindle.

Decide if you want power brakes or standard brakes. You will
need a 1972 port valve and master. power is up to you. (dont need it) Just run new lines with right fittings from the new port valve to the disc brakes. Just get all parts 1972 and up to be safe, and you know what you have.
