How many of you have had that done to your car/truck? How well did it go? not sure how their technic works on the thicker old steel...

Some girl decided to get in her car(while we were behind her waiting for some pedestrians to move) put it in reverse and back into my front fender last night... on my patina'd 70 GMC....

Not a happy guy... a new fender and paint isn't an option... the fender trim(grill surround) in a well weathered condition can be had though(once I find them I suppose) so I will probably replace that instead of trying to repair it

Also, does anyone have any specific experience with someone in the Ames/Des Moines IA area...?

These guys are in MN, but claim to do a lot of work on old "thicker metal" cars, so it can be done. Just showing that it is a possibility:

it can be done. at a shop i worked at we had to do pdr on a 71 roadrunner we had just painted and it came out great.

I just had a nasty door ding removed last week. The guy has been doing it for years. Get a referral. It's an art and some guys get really good at it. I cannot tell there was a ding where he worked it out. Not sure about the metal on our trucks if it's too thick. I think too think or thin can be issue. But they will tell you. Here I attached a pick. No need for after pick, because there is no trace of any dent. And it was kind of deep and concentrated in small spot. I am very happy. I hate door dings.

I've had it done but was on newer stuff. Buddy had it done on his '69 Nova. Can't tell anything ever happened. I'd go to a dealership and find out who they use. The guys that do it around here go to every dealership.

A well respected PDR shop attempted to repair a dent the size of a 50 cent piece on the top of my fender as well as a smaller dent on my hood. The dent on my hood came out great. The dent on my fender was kinda deep so the guy busted the paint while trying to get it out. Since you appear to have original paint I suspect that you will get good results on your repair. I have a base coat clear coat on my truck and as I said, the dent was pretty deep considering the small diameter of it.

I fixed one like that on my original paint K5. I completely removed the fender. Laid it out on my soft lawn and massaged it with a rubber mallet from the back side. Can't even tell now. Key was the soft lawn I think. Kept the metal from stretching.

thanks so far guys, the actual specific paintless dent removal places i have checked with so far want nothing to do with it... lol. hey, atleast they say "no, dont think we could do a good enough job on that" instead of saying sure and making it look like crud. if its going to be all hammer marked when they are done, id much rather just leave it the way it is...

i already talked to one body shop that ive known the owner of since i was a kid, and when i get a chance to take a ride back to wear i grew up and swing by some other good friends family body shop, i'll see what they have to say also...

the buddy i have already checked with thinks it shouldnt be to much of a problem... get some straight trim that will help him be able to line the curve back up how it needs to be to match.

and my other friends have always been known for VERY good work also, so im still hoping i can have both sides mostly smoothed back out. i am worried about being able to tell its been pounded on once its done though.

during the mean time i'll keep hunting for some straight, patinad grill surround trim for both fenders.
