question for GMC owners - front grille

I see that you can now get a repo 67 chrome grill.

I want to know how difficult it is to change out a GMC 67-72 grill.

I assume that you pull the bumper, and headlight bezels, and then there are screws that hold the grille on. Can someone tell me if this is accurate. I want to know how difficult the job is before I consider doing it. I can't see my truck right now because I am travelling away from home.

Just replcaed my core support and re-painted my grill (PO had previously painted it). Any way, I did not remove my bumper. Remove front parking lights. remove headlight trim. Un bolt grill from hood latch. should also be a bolt at bottom. 67-68 have a piece that connects between bottom of support and grill remove this(runs width of vehicle). should be 8 bolts (4 per side) connecting grill to fenders. should be able to lift out.

grill

I find it easier to take off the front bumper especially if you're putting a nice grill back in. I also loosen (not remove) the bolts going from the radiator support to the fenders in order to spread the fenders a little and make it easier for the grill to slide out from between them. 4 bolts per side as mentioned between the grill and fenders, 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom. I found it easier to leave the center grill support on the grill and unblot it from the radiator support but that's just me. Headlight bezels do not need to be removed as they will stay with the grill when removed but you do have to either take out or unplug the running lights in the grill. As mentioned, must also remove the air dam on '67 and 68. Pretty simple, should have it out in about 15 min. or so. Good luck.

Well thanks for the tips guys.

Went out to the garage today at 2pm, and returned at 4:30pm. A bit longer than a 15 minute job, and one broken bolt, and out it came. The 37 year old bolts were very seized and man are they hard to get at thru the grill, but I got it out without damage.

I sure hope the new repro. 67 GMC grille goes in o.k. and fits reasonably well. I have been waiting for over 3 years for their availability. I will be receiving my new grille within 2 weeks from the U.S.

Check out the new grill good every 67 I have received from them has splits. It looks like they did not allow enough metal to stamp the GMC in it. I was not happy with overall quality of them and now I do make sure the customer is aware of this before they buy it. I found this out on the first one I sold but did offer a full refund. Thanks Tim
