This or that??

I have the option of putting a little time, money & effort into either a 63 chevy shorted small window straight 6 or a 60 gmc longbed, big window v6. Both engines run and body in similar conditions. Which is more valuable / collectible?

Re: This or that??

put the bbw in the chevy short bed, that would be the best option.
neither will get you more money than you will put into them, so be aware of that...

but I would say in a popularity contest, chev over gmc, short over long, and big back window over small...

and then if it was me for myself, I would build the gmc!

Personally, long bed fleet with a big window is very classy looking. Otherwise, I prefer short beds.

Re: This or that??

I'm on the same page with the "popularity " list... was thinking that the 60 gmc might be little more desirable being that it was first truck to come out with the V6. IF I was to put the shorted on the big window cab then I would be stuck with a longbed, small window & have to eat the cost cuz I'm thinking not much desirability it that combo

Re: This or that??

If you keep the V6 in the GMC get it...if your gonna swap out to a V8...get the chevy. lol Alot of GMC guys don't take to well with V8's in the places of the big V6. And since most guys have V8's in there chevys its not bad at all. lol To keep the straight 6 is rare...but for the GMC guys...to swap out a V6 to a V8 is heresy. And in a way I agree...the V6 is a great engine and its a shame to see them dumped in scrap yards or left out to rust. I have a 64 GMC 1500 lwb with a 305E/SM420. No other engine I would rather have in there....except a bigger V6. Thing pulls a load better than any small block I have driven. I can go down to 15 miles an hour in 4th gear and pull right out. The 4.10's help alot with that to. I've pulled loads of manure up hills in 4th gear at 55 mph at 1/4 throttle. Thing runs Better loaded then it does unloaded. lol

But TO the point....My preference would be the GMC. That was the 1st year for the V6 being the 305A. A 305E manifold will bolt right in place and some little mods can be done to these beast to let out their true temper.

If I was to get the Chevy...pending on what inline 6 it had in it. I would either have some fun with the inline(like I'm known for) or swap in a out of the ordinary V8....like a 283 or 327....maybe even a 400...or even better a 572. lol But ultimately its YOUR decision. You buy whichever truck you like best! YOU do what you want with it!

Keep the V-6, how many others with a v-6 are in your area? It's nice to stand out from the crowd!

Re: This or that??

Yeah, it's going to be a joint project & in think my buddy & I are both leaning towards the gmc. The big back window is playing the biggest part on our decision making. Just for poops and chuckles, in a restored " auction " quality condition, numbers matching, bla bla bla, which would be more valuable? The Chevy or Gmc?

Re: This or that??

My .02 cents is to do the short bed. Having sold a few trucks over the years the shorts will sell much faster than the long beds. And as to the V6. Probably 50 guys will want to buy one with a small block chevy over someone who wants that old boat anchor.
