Question about 55-59 factory sun visors

I recently bought an original metal visor for my 57' Chevy truck. The visor is in great shape and will just need a little primer and paint to look good. My question is: After buying this visor I discovered that these units have a middle brace for support. The brace is missing from mine and it looks as though these pieces are not available new (visor brace). Can anyone show me an upclose picture of the underside of a complete visor? Has anyone built their own replacement brace before?

Re: Question about 55-59 factory sun visors

Here is some pictures of my visor, its original as far as i Know, has been with my truck for years. That center brace is factory spot welded, it would be strange that someone would had it removed.

Re: Question about 55-59 factory sun visors

JML55,

Thank you for the great pics! That center brace is exactly what I am looking for. Mine is missing that piece. Perhaps I could make one or does it really need it for support?

Re: Question about 55-59 factory sun visors

Yea I think it would come in handy as there will be a lot of air pushing on it.

That's what it looks like, from underneath, when it's on the truck.

Re: Question about 55-59 factory sun visors

Looking at the last picture of your exterior sun visor, what is the mounting process to the top of the cab?

Question Some questions about my visor

I thought I would "bump" this back up and get a few opinions. I still have an original 55-59 sun visor that is missing the support bracket underneath. Should I try to fabricate my own or just buy a re-pop sun visor? I like the look of them and planning to add it on to my pickup this Winter. The visor also has several added on holes drilled in it along the lip. How many mounting holes is the visor supposed to have?

Re: Question about 55-59 factory sun visors

I've heard like 10-12 holes I've also heard the repop need a little tweaking to fit. IMO I would try to fab a bracket first. I to am looking at buying one but I like to haul down the freeway and ive heard they don't handle that air to well going 75-80

The visor comes with the holes drilled, but I can't remember how many. I got mine from LMC and it did need a little tweaking on the passenger side of the cab. I think they all are the same as a friend's was off slightly on the right side just like mine. I'm not sure that you can get the holes drilled in the cab with the windshield in so be aware of that.
I had my truck up to about 70 once since installing it and didn't notice any problems but wasn't on the freeway so couldn't maintain the speed for long. They look good to me but do cut down on your upward visibility.

Re: Question about 55-59 factory sun visors

I think the aftermarket sunvisors don't come with the bracket.

They handle the air just fine. The one on Big Bertha is aftermarket and it has seen over 100 mph with out a bit of movement. I normally do not go that fast but I was an hour late to pick up a car in New York. Mine also needed some tweaking on the passenger side. I think the center brace keeps it from deforming in the middle from the wind

Re: Question about 55-59 factory sun visors

Hhhmmm........so it sounds like having the center brace is a "must have" in order to secure the visor while driving. Installing while the windshield is in place also sounds like a questionable proposition.

Re: Question about 55-59 factory sun visors

Mine went on easily with the windshield in. Just marked and driller the holes and used stainless screws.

Re: Question about 55-59 factory sun visors

If you want quality, don't get the visor from LMC... just trying to save anybody from paying the $40 to return it like I had to do.
