Pine needles in cowl of '72 C20.
Hi,
I don't know if I am saying the area of the hood correctly, but in the pictures below you can see alot of pine needles gathered in the cowel panel area. Is there any easy way to get them out? I tried a shop vac, wouldn't fit in it. Any solutions, besides cutting down the pine tree?

The cowl actually comes of really easy. You have to open the hood and doors. Then there's two bolts on each side and 5-10 screws on the top of cowl. You can get a kit that puts a grate under your cowl or just make your own for about 5 bucks. I used gutter screen because I was trying to keep leaves out, it would help with pine needles but something smaller might be better. May sound weird but I think it looks cool. I'll go snag you a pic.

Wow, a pic would be great, thanks! Are the bolts on the inside of the engine bay, where are the screws? On top of the cowl?

Don't forget to remove wiper arms before trying to pull cowl. They snap on. Heck, guess I could get ya a pic of that too. There ya go gotta pull on that tab to remove arm. You can get them with a pic or put down something to protect the cowl and rotate a big flathead under there to snag the clip. May need some wd40 if they been on a long time.

I have this same job coming up. I already have my cowl off and the replacement is at the media blaster (original cowl rusted through).

I took mine off years ago before the grills where available and I used screen door for it. Hot glued to bottom side. Once in place the screws will hold it in place. Cheap to!

This is the tool used to remove the wipers. Some of the best money I have spent on this truck!

Very good stuff! I will do as you did and put this back when "putting back the cowl" comes. Thanks.

Take cowl cover off. Open vents inside cab. Get a leaf blower and get after it.

Re: Pine needles in cowl of '72 C20.
I actually ordered the tool based on a thread which was started last December. I was dumbfounded when I tried it for the first time and I had both wiper arms off in seconds as opposed to several minutes and scratches with a pick and screwdriver.

Re: Pine needles in cowl of '72 C20.
One more thing, if you have pine needles visable from the top I guarentee you have pine needles where the vents are inside the cab, the vent doors are removable from the inside, then you can feed a vaccum hose down in the opening, the inside of the vent channel go's about 4-5 inches lower then the vent opening, with the vent doors removed you can get a small vaccum hose in there. There is actually a water drain hole in the bottom so if you fish around with a length of wire you should eventually find it, make sure you keep them clear if it rains where your at.
I bought pre made cowl guards that were made on a punch press in stead of the mesh screen that was posted, made with 2 different pieces it was about $40 if i remember correct.
