Install TH350 in 62 C10

I have a TH350 that I am installing in a 62 C10. the torsion cross bar is right in the way of the tail shaft.
Is it ok to cut the cross member enough to allow clearance for tail shaft and then build some brackets to support the frame ?

Re: Install TH350 in 62 C10

Is it possible to just unbolt the torsion bar support and move it out of the way until I get the tranny in place ?

Re: Install TH350 in 62 C10

I can tilt it down and try and get the rear of the tail shaft resting on the torsion frame but i tmakes it difficult to keep the torque converter on.
doing by myself just trying to find a easier solution.

Did you cut out the torsion support to allow the tranny to lift right in ?
Cant tell from you post if you did or not.

Are you trying to install the trans with the engine already in place? If so, I think you will need to either pull the engine, or drop the torsion bar crossmember. If you choose the crossmember, just be sure all tension from the torsion bars is off of the crossmember.

This is one of the reasons, I really don't like the '60-'62 frames.

Re: Install TH350 in 62 C10

thx for all the input fellas really appreciate it.
I just wrestled it in there without having to do anything to the cross member.
Was quite a task trying to hold torque converter on while lifting with a floor jack.
got it in tho but what a Pain !
