Snow plow (since search is currently down)

Has anyone recently installed a snow plow on their '60-'66 truck? My wife is pestering me to install one on my '65 K10, and since I did buy it as more as a yard truck than a show truck, I can't think of any reason not to. I would be plowing my only driveway only, and possibly helping out a neighbor or two.

Thanks. I'd like to find out if anyone knows if plow frames or other parts are still available, or if I'm going to be searching eBay and the classifieds here for parts.

I bailed out after about two minutes. Editing people.

Would a newer frame ('73 - '87) fit on one of these older trucks? A newer ('75) bumper sort of fit in that the holes in the bumper matched up with the holes in the frame, so it should be about the same width. I'm concerned about the steering box.

You see I would call Meyer or Fisher or any of the other well known plow manufacturers and ask if they have any old drawings to go on. Thats what customer service is all about. Or get a name of a long time retailer from them and ask the retailer what they did.

Re: Snow plow (since search is currently down)

My 62 had a plow frame I removed it. I think its still kicking around in the scrap pile but its now buried with three feet of snow. I can check in the spring. It looked to be home made, looked well made tho 3/8x3" angle iron. What part of the frozen tundra in CT are you?

Re: Snow plow (since search is currently down)

Hi, We took a newer Curtis SnowPro and modified the mount off my 96 Chevy to the 72 frame with some 1/2" plate and 1 1/2" sq. tube for kickers. Then added 2nd batt. to run the plow and dump box. I love the drive in drive out on the new plows.

Re: Snow plow (since search is currently down)

You might want to check with your local bylaws as well, as here in Montreal your not allowed to drive around with the plow frame & hydraulic setup during the summer. Course being on an older truck, the novelty might go overlooked.

Re: Snow plow (since search is currently down)

I cant say that we have such a law in the states. I have a 85 dodge 250 with a real hydraulic fisher plow. Not one of those electric/hyd. setups. Never had a problem with police. But a lot of people call my 85 old too, go figure.

Re: Snow plow (since search is currently down)

Now that we're in mid-summer, I want to get back into this plow thing. I'm finding that certain manufacturers still have applications back to 1973. I've read that my '65's frame is the same width, though the horns are shaped differently. Is this correct?

Horns are different,
I'd try contacting the manufacturers, just to see if your application is feasible!

Re: Snow plow (since search is currently down)

I'll have to start making phone calls because the information I've found online from various plow manufacturers so far only goes back to 1973.

Try emailing customer services at the different companies, they sometimes will refer you to a long time dealer who might have the answer.

Re: Snow plow (since search is currently down)

You most likely to have to adapt a current mount to your Truck. We took my Curtis mount off my 96 Chevy and modified it to fit the 72 ,we've had it on 4yrs now and no problems so far.

Good to know. Unfortunately my fabrication capabilities are rather limited to a worn out 110v MIG and no air tools. I'm hoping to find something I can adapt without a lot of cutting/welding.
