My new project '67 short stepside

I should have started a journal when I started doing my truck 6 months ago when I finally talked my dad into letting the truck go. My dad restored the truck 15 years ago, just did the body replacing cab corners and rockers and painted it viper yellow. Left it stock otherwise drum brakes no power anything, a 283 and 3 on the column. The truck has sat for 10 years since he bought his dream car (1970 mercury cyclone spoiler) and built my mom a '39 Pontiac street rod.

In the last 6 months the truck has got disc brakes, swapped to 5 bolt, lowered 5.5/7 with c-notch of course and new everything on chassis with paint. Stripped the body to bare metal as I cant stand all that yellow. Very rust free truck just had to replace one rear fender. I had a fresh 327 built and added a Muncie 4 gear to go in this week. Nothing special engine wise, just want a daily driver for the summer as I have a pretty wild pickup already. The truck wont see the road until next year because the work will be slowing Down drastically once it gets hot out. Oh and it got a pretty set of 20" colorado custom wheels too.

Once I figure out how to post multiple pictures in one post I will add the stuff I've done recently with the engine and body like the anodizing my buddy did on the engine parts and frenching lights into the rollpan.

This is how I sits right now. I will post up some of the work that's been done soon

Re: My new project '67 short stepside

Here's some of the anodizing we did last week. Didn't want any chrome under hood but just happened to have a polished intake and these valve covers I the shelf so I used them. Was going to anodize black but I really liked this bronze colour so we went with it. I think they turned out good and will probably do the intake black this week.

We didn't know it at the time but because these are cast aluminum valve covers they get kind of a marble look when anodized. Wasn't the plan but they will still be easier to keep looking clean so I'm keeping them.

This is how I ended up frenching the lights. I planned on doing them upright in the box sides but found that lots of people are doing that already and while I like the way they look I figured I would try another way. Not done but should get it finished soon and once I figure out how to post multiple pictures in one post I will show how I did it.

Lights are in just hours of body work to go. Next time I would be building my own buckets for the lights, wouldn't be all that hard and these ones I bought were not even close to the same shape to start with. A lot of time getting the buckets to match.

Re: My new project '67 short stepside

Wanted to update this months ago but had problems uploading pictures, still am but I'll do it one at a time I guess. Engine and trans are in, haven't fired it because I have to notch a crossmember and run the exhaust through and I think my neighbours have been through enough open header noise from my last build. Engine is a 327 and a muncie m20. Ended up running exhaust manifolds after a few tries at headers that wouldn't clear the z-bar.

Re: My new project '67 short stepside

Got the ride height right and got the cab and front clip in primer. Rest of the body will be done in the next couple weeks. I had trouble finding a stepside fender so I ended up spending too much time fixing the one I had.

Re: My new project '67 short stepside

Spent a lot of time making one fender out of the two I had. Both had problems but between them I managed to get one solid rust free fender with surprisingly little filler. Next time I will buy a aftermarket one, once I started fixing this one I couldn't give up on it. These pictures only show part of what I had to replace and the big patch was fixing a previous repair someone else did.

Re: My new project '67 short stepside

Finished getting rid of the chains and a bunch of useless holes in the bedsides. Never liked the chains and the damage they cause so I'm moving the latches inside.

Re: My new project '67 short stepside

New tank is in. Boyds welding tank looks excellent but I'm pretty sure it's going to hang below my rollpan. Guess I'll have to get over it or run a bumper? I mounted it on top of the frame rail flange and gained 3/8 at most. Time to run lines.
