We can definately sympathize and glad all are ok. Took us 2 years of litigation, to finally prevail! But I can say that the Focus that hit her got the worst end of the deal! Score one for American Iron!

Re: my 66 daily got totaled

Bummer.. but like it has been posted the toys can be replaced.. we cannot..

I plan on having grundy cover my truck for insurance. I know it will be a bit more, but I am going to put a 65,000 price tag on 4 years of my life and the money invested.. My buddys 65 chopped step side with BBC and a 8-71 blower huffed and some how blew a fuel line apart and it caught fire. Grudy took less than a week to cut his 50,000 check and he went out and bought another...

Re: my 66 daily got totaled

Sorry as everyone else. Thankfully there were no major injuries, it could have been much worse. Many years ago my oldest son and I were hit by a drunk driver which destroyed my 67 Chevelle. 2 weeks on a new engine and SS 396 hood it took 5 years to find. We walked away however. As stated by everyone else you can always build another car/truck/toy. Just watch for odd aches and pains over the next few days.

Also ask the adjuster if they will just give you the truck back for free. When mine was destroyed the insurance company policy was to charge 10% of the settlement value to get the vehicle back, but the guy was sympathetic and gave me the car back at no charge.

I cant tell you how many times I've heard about classics getting trashed within weeks of a finished resto or major fix of some sort. Its almost like fate is doing its best to bury these antiques forever while we fight tooth and nail to keep them alive!

Agreed! Seen this older thread for the first time. Unfortunately accidents do happen. My 2 cents worth:When involved in an accident , and all are still in good health, and the insurance co. wants to "total" your vehicle, get as much as you can and just buy another one. Swallow your pride. These trucks are still available. Why should you bust your knuckles , get dirt and sweat in your eyes, fustration of getting the parts you need own your own, while the girl who hit you is still out partying?

Re: my 66 daily got totaled

This accident was last July, and I hope all turned out well on the girl friend/baby front. Number 1 are the loved ones. Let us all learn the importance of having our "steel" loved ones properly insured though. It is very important to have our trucks appraised, and insured based on those appraisals. If you bought your baby for $500.00, and invested 20k into it, the insurance Co. needs to know that. If after investing 20k, your truck is worth 30k, it should be insured for 30k. Also look at separate insurance for you "vintage" vehicle. Your insuranace Co. may want hundreds per month, but Haggerty may want 100's per year. Again, I hope that dragn91, and the FAM are well!!!

Re: my 66 daily got totaled

Well I finally am a 60-66 owner again. I sold the wrecked green 66 a wile back and have been without for a c ouple years I bout a 80 Crew cab that's kept me busy but there's always been a something missing. Well not just any old truck will do but I manage to get ahold of my first old truck again almost 8 years later and the titles still in my name. Here's some pics and a story on the truck. I was 18 or maybe 19 just started working the job I still got making really **** money back then I was driving a 96 dodge ram i got cheap with 50k miles on it. I hated it. It always worked dog slow nothing fun about it. Well I hear about a 66 for 200 bucks runs but ruff and a rotted wood bed on the back same day my cousin calls asking if I know of any cheap cars for sale so I said bring me 800 bucks and take my dodge he's still driving it btw 170k miles now. I brought home this 15 plus layers of spray paint and bondo filled beauty. This pic is the second day I owed it the tire blew out on the way home so we ditched what was left of the flatbed in the woods and I picked up this bed for another 200 of my buddy's friend. I swear it's off a completely different truck.

So after sanding it down mostly bear metal I epoxy primed it black painted the grill white and made some grinder whitewalls and did my first pinstripes.

Along the way my buddy found me a mint gmc tailgate which I kept for the green 66 chevy and still have in my garage. The 250 inline gave up slowly so I picked up a 350 good wrench in a parts truck cheap and put it in over a weekend so I could make it to work monday. I was 19 no money and I didn't have motor mounts or a drive shaft that was long enough so I cut a hole in the firewall for the distributer to clear and welded some scrap together for engine mounts... some similar fixes are the dodge van radiator and the wheel with 3 lugs I got got all about or the bungee tie on the distributer keeping it in place because it wouldn't stay clamped tight. Here's some pics of when it was my daily

And here how she sits now the years have not been kind to it mostly due to the broken windshield and it sitting in the mud under a deck. It's got a ways to go before I can drive it again but I can't wait.

Now if the spare doors and front fenders I had stashed away hasen't of been stolen I'd really be happy. I do got nice bumper guards custom cab sail panel trim stainless tailgate latches the tailgate of this and my green one same for the rear bumper bolt in notches and an adjustable track bar and my 59 impala/corvette center caps. Oh and the only reason I stopped driving this truck was I blew the drive shaft so I got to get one of those and fix all my old jerry rigs and damage from sitting as well.

Re: my 66 daily got totaled

Finally got a chance to work on it today I pulled the seat out and started pressure washing the grease grime and flaking spray paint off it. I'm gonna have to use paint stripper to get the rest there's two different color spray paint over the original interior. I found more rust. The cab is pretty much shot but I'm not looking for a show truck and its got sentimental value so I'm gonna try to patch it up the best I can do now. Above the windsheild is badly rusted but since the windsheild is broke its the perfect time to fix it. Also threw the tailgate and stainless chains on and managed to get it fired up. It's got a clogged line from the tank to the carb it sounds like the flex plate or starter is on its last leg the fan clutch is wobbly the alternator was locked up tight but I got it free don't know if it's working or not tho and the carb although looking like it took a summer vacation on the Titanic and spewing gas all over from the fill tube for the rear bowl idles like a champ. My old welding rod throttle lever is still holding up good as well lol.

Re: my 66 daily got totaled

Got the truck to take fuel from the tank the other day and today I went to my favorite junkyard and got a crappy gmc hood to cut and use patches for my crappy gmc hood to make one slightly less crappy gmc hood lol. I also bought a whole roof off a junk cab to use the front section above the windsheild hopefully I don't botch it up to bad and got a pretty nice windsheild all for 120 bucks. Well I know everyone on here like pics so here's some from today
My above windsheild rust thanks mice..started drilling spot welds

My donor roof section and my buddy brandon

Before I got the fuel line cleared

And here's some 60-66 with trees growing through them

I really need to find a set of front fenders

Re: my 66 daily got totaled

Damn I never have free time. I did manage to find two decent thin white wall tires for 15 bucks just have to find two more and a couple steelies I only have two and 4 ralleys I don't want. J Also picked up a really nice holley 600 for 75 Bucks today i honestly dont know how the truck was running with the one on it. also picked up two new mufflers from carlise for 45 over the weekend they look like fat short glasspacks but are actually dual chambered hope to find out how they sound as soon as my engine mounts get here I'll make up a new exhaust. Hopefully I can get it going good before winter. Still on the hunt for two doors and front fenders
