Post Has anyone seen a 71 equipped like this?

1971 Chevy Cheyenne, Short Wheel Base Step Bed (Yes, a Cheyenne step bed)
This is a numbers matching truck ordered with the following options.
Black on Black
402 Big Block
400 Turbo Automatic
Positraction Rear End
Power Steering
Standard disk brakes, No power brakes
Factory A/C
Bucket Seats
Factory Tach

I would like to know how many were built equipped like this. So far, I haven't had any luck, but, I've had several tell me they have never seen one. Most are fleet side beds. Anyway, if you know of any, or have ever seen one, I would like to know.

Thanks

Re: Has anyone seen a 71 equipped like this?

That is an interesting option combination, they thought they were ordering a sports car instead of a truck.
That is a highly optioned nice find.
Does it have tilt steering?

Re: Has anyone seen a 71 equipped like this?

There were so many options and combinations available that every truck is one of a kind

Re: Has anyone seen a 71 equipped like this?

I would say that's one desirable stepside! There's no break down of numbers for GM stuff based on options. Just a total of say 2wd shortbox stepsides. I don't recall seeing a more loaded stepside though. Definitely would be worth some cash. Any pictures?

sounds like a sweet truck. i have seen several cheyenne and super stepsides over the years. there used to be one local that was black on black, tilt, tach, a-c, p-s,p-b, am/fm and buckets. there is a super stepside sitting in the next town over from me, dark olive with lots of options but the owner won't even discuss selling it, it just there to tease people i guess.

Re: Has anyone seen a 71 equipped like this?

25 Years ago I had purchased a short step side 2 wheel drive pickup from the government. This truck had a 402 with a standard 4 speed on the floor. PS and PDB. That was the strangest chevy truck that I had ever owned over the past 20 trucks and 40 years of playing with these .

No factory tilt column. I'm adding tilt, power windows, door locks, etc.

I have several pictures from start to current state. Most are so old it was prior to current tech, i.e., cell phones! I need to get them on my computer so I can show them.

Thanks. I'm glad to know there are some out there. Was the black on black that you mentioned a 402 BB?

Thanks for the reply. I hope it's worth something when I'm done. I have a load in it so far and have more to go.

Rock Lee ! As mentioned that you hope it is worth something when done. You should never put a price tag on something that you are doing for a hobby. You are not looking for a rate of return $$$$ except a way to relax and enjoy this hobby. That my friend can not really have a price tag.
If you were concerned with the cost then my suggestion is never start a project like you have. In the end when you are out driving , showing and get responses from on lookers you will forget about the amount of $$$ and hard work you spent on it and gloat on the attention .

You are right. Worth has many meanings and I left the impression that it was all about money. When someone takes a second look, or comments on how nice it looks, or what a great job you did building the truck, that is worth tons. I hope I can achieve that when the truck is done. There's a long personal story behind this truck that makes it even more special. Time will tell!!
Thanks for getting me straight!
Hope to have some pictures in teh near future.

Re: Has anyone seen a 71 equipped like this?

Rick Lee ! It does not hurt to try to stay within ones budget, as many vehicles that I have done over the decades , I have never completed a project within my budget , but once I realized that I was not going to get satisfied end results within that budget then I forget about all receipts paid and focus on reaching my goal that I am going to be satisfied with.
I am currently building a 1932 all steel 3 window Ford coupe. Had spent money on a nice IFS kit for the car years ago . I was not really happy with it but was within my budget. 22 years later when I got back on my car , the front IFS kept bugging me . So last year for Christmas I cut loose with some hard earned cash and bought the IFS that I wanted originally. Good thing that my chassis was not done yet. Now I can look at my car and think that I am really glad I broke down and bought what I really wanted. I wasted time and money on the first IFS installation but think that I may be able to use some of the components on another build.

Re: Has anyone seen a 71 equipped like this?

If you are concerned about the value of such a well optioned truck, your best bet is stay with how it was built. Any truck can have options added or changed into a Cheyenne Super. You negate "as built" relevance when you get away from that.

Nothing wrong with making your truck suit you. As long as what you do can be changed back to original...like adding tilt, the truck can always retain it's value in being a well optioned truck from factory with SPID to prove it

Thanks! I've found that I really enjoy the hunt for rare, nice OEM or NOS parts, but I'm ready to drive it!!
