Question Which BBC Oil Pan?

For those of you who have put a bbc into your trucks did you use a stock pan or did you upgrade to a Moroso unit? If you have headers did you have fitment issues with the aftermarket pan? I plan to use the Sanderson Headers which are pretty flat and shouldn't be an issue.

The Moroso Catalog list a ton of different pans and my motor will not be stock.

Re: Which BBC Oil Pan?

I used the stock oil pan on my 66 C20. My front crossmember is out of a 79 C20 and there are no fitment issues.

Re: Which BBC Oil Pan?

I used the stock oil pan on my 63 big block build. Went with 2" primary headers and did have to trim the frame to fit them in.

Re: Which BBC Oil Pan?

I went with a Moroso 7 quart pan and Im about as low as you can be with just springs and the pan is level at the bottom of the cross member. Stock Chevelle or Nova pan is also a great choice. I really like the Sanderson headers as they fit these trucks very well .

Re: Which BBC Oil Pan?

Great info thanks!

60-66, what frame mounts are those and which ones on the engine? I still have the V6 ones and thought just maybe I can find some that might work.

Re: Which BBC Oil Pan?

I used the stock pan with my stock cross member. The stock pan is already 6 quarts. You can check out my build thread from the link below.

Re: Which BBC Oil Pan?

Well I just finished reading thru it all the way and always noticed little changes. Is the accessory drive one that came with the engine or was it the one the GM Performance offers? Does that AC unit give you enough cold air? Will I need to remove my stock heater to make the BB fit better?
The Optima Battery issue, contact them directly they should be able to take care of you. I will probably buy those engine mounts since my 427 will spin to 7000 rpm. I noticed you went back to a stock type master cylinder...those Wilwood can be a ***** to bleed properly can't they.

My build is listed as My Free Truck: Project Rhino.

I'm done with paint now is the more costly side of things...

Re: Which BBC Oil Pan?

I don't have the A/C hooked up yet. That one is on the back burner. I need to get the bed done first.
The wildwood master was leaking from the back and it was brand new so I just decided to dump it for the stock one. Not sure about the stock heater but I don't see you having a problem with it.
I did order the GM Performance system from Jegs. It was easy to install and I had a good time doing it.
I called the Optima people and they kept asking me questions about the charging of it . The battery would just not hold a charge anymore. I called Summit and without hesitation they sent me a new battery and I have not had a problem with it since. I can actually leave the truck sitting for a week and it will start. My message box is now empty/

I used factory 68-71 Chevy truck Big block mounts each time Ive done this. Reason is , I didn't want to bang in the firewall or cut it, These mounts move the engine slightly forward. Everything fits great. Also if you use stock manifolds they are clearance for them. The draw back is these mounts can be expensive because of their collector value. Ive found them cheap in junk yards etc. You will need to trim back the top of the frame rail for them to sit correctly like any 68-71 frame but all the stock holes line up. Lots of different options.

Re: Which BBC Oil Pan?

I tried the 68 mounts and my headers would not clear the left one for some reason. I sent them back because I believe they were like $300. I am pretty much done putting BB's in my trucks.

Re: Which BBC Oil Pan?

I used the POL mounts and had no issues after going to them.
