What is a really mnice 68-72 short fleet bed worth to buy?

Just looked at my mostly repro bed the other day, and was curious if a person wanted a super nice just sand prime and paint basically with minor flaws, what would it be worth to buy?

PS didn't post in the WIW section because it looks like an area to price stuff people already own?

I just paid 800 for this one it's about as perfect as they come I have about 30 min of hammer and dolly work into fixing some minor dings. Not a spec of rust in the thing. Other than the obvious patina but that's why I like it!

Ok thanks guys that gives me an idea. Personally I would pay up to 2k for a nice one without blinking, just seeing what they are worth on average.

Re: What is a really mnice 68-72 short fleet bed worth to buy?

Four years ago I paid $1200 for a steel short bed without the gate (came with a front bumper) in exchange for my old bed, which was thrashed. The one I bought is near perfect, stripped down to metal and the inside wasn't used. I feel it was a good deal. If you find a real good one, I'd think $1500-$2000, not that you couldn't find one cheaper. Good luck locating a nice one.

$1200 to $1500 in AZ. I bought a whole truck for $1600 and kept the bed. Sold off the truck and got half my money back. Thought I got a pretty good deal all in about $900 plus some time/effort.

Re: What is a really mnice 68-72 short fleet bed worth to buy?

Early this year I bought a LWB 69 running with tailgate for 800.00. Not perfect by any means, but couple hundred for 1 front fender and 2 complete doors from junk yard, all her in Washington, State. Truck came from Yakima. Drove it an hour on the highway home.

Few months ago I sold a swb bed trailer for $500 ... few dings, little rust only in front corner of bed, no tailgate.

Re: What is a really mnice 68-72 short fleet bed worth to buy?

I'd say $1,200 is a good average and the posts confirm it. Long beds the same. Just depends on which one you need. Condition varies even on excellent condition beds. There's only one perfect and I'd pay the price for one as long as I had the money.
Reselling repro is different. You will take a loss. No one will buy from you what they can buy from a dealer unless it costs a lot less. Just the way it is. You may stand behind your one item better than a dealer would but people get some sort of false sense of security buying from a business. It's the same thing that gets people to pay way more for a used car off a lot than the same care out of your driveway.

Re: What is a really mnice 68-72 short fleet bed worth to buy?

Another way to look at it is, last I checked you could get a complete repro. (less the gate) for 2K, and that's without any shipping considerations. So if say you found a bed that was near perfect............

In other words, if a new repro. and an original are comparable in condition, seems the original is worth at least $2500.
