Diesel swap wiring help needed

Putting a 6.5 in my 86 k10. Had a 350 in it previously and am wondering what I can eliminate, keep and what I need to figure out if I haven't got it yet. Didn't have an engine in it when I got it so that's why I'm trying to figure out the wires.

Oil pressure wire-brown
Coolant temp wire-green
Coil wire-pink
Tan/blk or what/black wire?
Blue-black-white 2 prong plug, 3 wires in total?
S-wire-purple

I think that is it for plugs on the engine
Any with a question mark I need to know what it is for and if I need to use them.

How do I hook up my alternator? I'm using the 6.5 alternator. So the exciter terminal is L on the pigtail. Which wire on the truck harness is the exciter wire? Black or red? And then the other one left over is for the gauge? And I could just hook that up to the charging post?

Anything I'm missing?

You're going to have to make a glow plug circuit including the relay and sensors, add a second battery and cables, run ignition power to the injection pump, add a fuel return line to the tanks, add a primary water separating fuel filter, and of course make sure the tranny is set up for a diesel with a diesel torque converter.

Re: Diesel swap wiring help needed

Purple S-Wire is probably the "Start" wire from the ignition switch for the starter.

You will be happier if you wire up;
HPCA (Housing Pressure Cold Advance) on the injection pump with the HPCA cutout sensor. Similar to a choke on a gasoline engine. It advances the injection timing 3 degrees or so till the engine temp climbs to the cutoff point.
A 1988-2000 6.x glow plug relay with glow inhibit temp sensor.
BTW both are bloody easy to wire up and will make you much happier with the engine.

Follow the wires you can't ID back to the bulkhead plug to find the position they occupy. Check against the 1986 GM wiring diagrams in my signature. The circuit #s will tell you what they are.
The 6.2L & early 6.5L bibles (GM service training textbooks) are in the manuals too. They will give you a lot of information on the 6.x diesels.
