1969 4x4 but has CS Vin code
I came across this really nice suburban the other day but noticed the vin started with C instead of K? THe C is for 2 whd and K 4 whd, I cant see anywhere thatthere was a conversion done to it. Can someone with more experience with the K series give me a couple places to look to see that it was a conversion at some time? It runs and drives great so I do want it but needd to know what to watch out for.
Thanks for the help guys. |

Re: 1969 4x4 but has CS Vin code
I don't think there is any difference in the body but I am no expert. It could have had a complete frame change. Someone could have changed the door tag and glove box door from another truck.
All the 2WD Suburban's I've seen have had coil spring rear suspensions. I have seen 4WD conversions that left the coils/trailing bars in the rear. All 4WD would be leaf sprung in the rear. It has been said, a partial VIN is stamped in the drivers frame rail. I'll take a look at my 4x4 and see if I can locate it.

This suburban is now my suburban, and im still curious about the VIN. It has leafs in the rear. No SPID, but the door tag is original and the vin matches the stamp on frame

Re: 1969 4x4 but has CS Vin code
Does it have a straight 6 cylinder engine? The "S" designates six cylinder.
If not - that could indicate some tomfoolery, the extreme conclusion being perhaps someone did a frame swap and then swapped the VIN on the cab to match the frame. Or - a factory screw up. I do not recall having to pay attention to the model and engine type when stamping the VIN in the frame - only the sequential portion of the VIN and Chevy vs GMC. Show us what you do have for frame stamp, VIN plate and front spring/core support hangers. What does it have for a driveline?
