color

hey y'all.

what color is my truck? i know its rustoleum "seaside"... but i decided to have a friend of mine who has a body shop professionally paint the truck. the job i did was fun to try, and it looks pretty good from across the street, even better from across the parking lot LOL. anyway, the truck deserves a proper paint job, and my friend offered to paint the truck with base and clear for a grand.

he asked me to pick the paint color at the local auto body supply store. i was expecting to have a book to chose the correct color,,,but the guy at the store was saying its a custom color and theres nothing like it in his books. ( he had huge binders where you can look up stock colors for every vehicle you can think of)....

is there a production vehicle out there that comes with this sort of robins egg aqua blue? i didnt think buying the paint would be an issue, but i guess it is! the store guy suggested that i paint a piece of flat metal, and bring it in so they can scan it to color match it.

if you guys can offer any advice.... color codes? i think "tiffany blue" could be another name for what im lookin for....http://www.autoevolution.com/news/20...box-73085.html

Re: color

For your 57 the correct color would have been Indian Turquoise. If you Google 1955 Chevy truck Indian Turquoise you'll find a chart with the correct code number. I can't remember it off the top of my head

Re: color

Original color was more likely 710 Tartan Turquoise:

http://www.autocolorlibrary.com/aclc...truck-pg01.jpg

Your Barret Jackson pic looks similar to Summit color coastal blue:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-up337lv/overview/

monitors vary the colors so much I've seen pics of trucks that look blue in one shot and green in another pic .

If you cant get a paint code and brand from the horses mouth, best to buy a small container try a sample piece

Re: color

I like the hell outta that Tartan Turquoise. It's your money of course, just saying!

PS: I'd also love saying it's an original color. This color chart has me thinking about that Cardinal Red and the Ocean Green for mine!

Re: color

You did good by taking the glove box in and having them match it. It's strange that Home Depot has a machine that you can stick a paint sample in and the computer matches the color and gives a readout on what is needed to come up with that color but companies like PPG don't seem to have it for automotive use yet.

Re: color

I spent hours and hours with paint chips and a section of the firewall that had original color which maybe had never seen sunlight. Flourescent lights, daylight, incandesent lights, eliminating colors one at a time until I had a match. Final color was Mercedes truck "türkis grüen" available from Standox. It's a tough color to pin down visually... blue in some light, green in others. Pictures always seem to bias it one way or the other. It's a nice contrast to the "Lada Beige" that's on the grille/bumpers. I'll see if I can snap a picture today or tomorrow.

They actually do have such a machine. Doesn't always work that easy, though. Colors with a lot of flake and pearl in them give the thing fits.
I worked in a house paint store back in the day when you had to match color by eye. Matching house paint and car paint are 2 different worlds.

OFF-TOPIC:
After giving up finding the exact automotive color chip that I wanted, I searched paint chips of numerous house paints.

I found exactly what I was looking for in the WalMart-brand house paint chips.
My body shop paint salesman easily matched it with the computer matching program.

Orange Whip.

When I first got there with the glove box door , the guy took it in the back ... And whatever equipment they had to computer match it was not coming up with a good match . The computer tells you how close the match is and the according to the guy , a score above 3 is not a good match... The computer gave my color match attempt a score of 17. I guess technology hasn't really advanced much in this color matching for car paint ? They ended up "adding a little blue " to a ppg turquoise color, by eye, to match my paint. I have to say , the color looks dead on balls accurate.
I bought one gallon at the advice of my painter. So I asked the guy at the store .... "You measured how much blue , and what blue you added to this right "?
The guy then says if I need more paint they will match by eye again. Smh

Looks great! Your friend must be a magician. It doesn't look like there's enough room to paint a bicycle in there.

That looks great. The only problem is, now you have to worry about keeping it from getting scratched or dinged, LOL.
