1947 chevy 2 ton

I have a 1947 chevy two ton truck with s rusted out fuel tank. It mounts to the passenger outside frame rail just behind the cab. I want to replace it with the same style but can not find one that will work For a 2 ton truck. I don't want to relocate the fuel tank to the rear of the frame because it has a 12 foot flatbed on it and it wouldn't be easy to fill a rear style fuel tank. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

You might try posting your question in the Heavy Haulers section of the forum too.

I had the same issue, unless you can find a used one the options are have one made or find a tank restorer. I paid almost $450 to get one restored

find some one in your area like https://www.donhart.com/

Re: 1947 chevy 2 ton

I know the mid 70 series C/K 10-20 and maybe 30s too have saddle type tanks mounted under the bed. I looked at using one for my Short Fleetside but they were too long. I believe there was an RPO option for a second tank on the opposite side too.

It's approximately 34" long by 12" wide by 12" tall. Are you able to post a picture of it?

I would guess it looks something like this tank? Sorry I do not have the tank. You may consider a inside frame rail tank and have the filler through the bed. I also have a 12' bed and it works fine. The filler is located inside the small chrome ring on the upper left side of the flat bed.

Mine is shorter . Only about 24 x 12 12 . Has a side fill which may be for a panel truck or 47 pickup. Have not had time to compare. Not the elbow fill like the one pictured. Thanks

Re: 1947 chevy 2 ton

I might be able to locate a tank like the one pictured on the COE but shipping usually gets kind of crazy. You may want to see if there is someone close to you that might have a tank. Rough estimate of shipping would be $50-$75 . Thanks Shipping has become hard on the hobby.

Re: 1947 chevy 2 ton

A 47/48 3/4 ton tank that sits on the inside of the frame might be the same tank.

Scroll down and look at the 3/4 ton tank on this page in Jim Carter's site http://www.oldchevytrucks.com/blog/i...tanks-1947-55/ The half ton/burb tank is a bit shorter and wider.

You might try wwwtanks.com. I think that's the right place. I bought my tank for a 48 Chevy, its really close to the one that was in it.
