Installing power steering and disk brakes
Been looking at a 68 GMC truck that comes with no power steering or brakes. If I purchase im wanting to change over to power steering and disk brakes. Im not a mechanic by any means, so wanting to know how hard of a job it is to achieve both? Also, how hard to switch to 5 lug instead of 6? Is there any specific donor vehicles that would work without issue? Thanks.

Re: Installing power steering and disk brakes
I'm right there with you. As for p/s, lots of more reasonable upgrades than I did, but I love my AGR variable ratio box and pump. Use the search feature--there is a whole library of great info for different year trucks and different engines. I'd read those first, then start asking more questions. That's how I did it. All the info and expertise is right here. Good luck.

How much money do you have to spend after the purchase price? Ask some local shops that do truck work and they'll let you know labor costs. Bill |

Re: Installing power steering and disk brakes
p/s is a breeze. Just get either a donor/rebuilt/new gear box, hoses, pump and pulley. I used all march stuff ad a new box but either way is good...easy job. Pulley alignment may be your hardest part but just keep trying and it'll line up.
