changing from 5 lug to 6 lug axles
im interested in changing my 1997 silverado 1500 2wd from a five lug to a 6 lug to run the silverado ss 20 inch wheels. ive looked at getting adapters but they a 2.2 inches thick and that is just way to thick for me to be able to lower the truck onto them. any advice you could give on how hard it is to swap or if even possible would be greatly appriciated.

If you can find a decent K1500 rear, I would just swap out the entire rear. That would give you the 6 on 5.5 pattern you are lookin for in the rear. As far as the front goes, you will have to swap over the spindles, rotors, ect... from a light 3/4 ton truck to get the 6 on 5.5 in the front.
Good Luck! Joe

Hey bagged91, do you know if this mod would be just as straight forward for a '74 1/2 ton? Been looking at the new weels myself for my ride.

necromancer, no, the mod is not that simple. unless of course you want to have a set of custom made, custom drilled rotors on the front. or you dont mind switching to a pre-70 front suspension with drum brakes.

NeCrOmAnCeR,
GMC Paul sells 6 lug rotors that will fit on a 73-87 spindle as long as you already have the 1.25" thick rotors. if so it would just be a bolt on for the front. not sure about the rear...... dont know if you could swap axles from a 70' with the wider rear end like the 71-72's or just have your axles and drums redrilled. |
