Bought a 71 k20 today

Here is the k20 I picked up. Truck is very original with exception of 427 Tall deck. I was told it had mods done to the 427. Im not sure what though. It appears to be a low mileage motor based on the engine shops sticker on the door and cleanliness. Someone didn't do a nice install, and p.s. is incomplete. Brakes go to the floor but stops, exhaust needs replaced. The only real rust it has is in the rockers, and passenger side floor. Cab supports, corners, cowl, etc.. are all solid.

Re: Bought a 71 k20 today

Get it mechanically up to par, swap out gate with an ochre one, some trim, lift, tires and drive it for now. I'm building a 72 3/4 4x4 suburban also. So I'll drive this while working on it.

Sweet truck. Most ochre trucks had the saddle interior, so its pretty cool it has black.

I think so, and I already have a really nice ochre gate off a blazer to throw on.

That's a nice looking rig. Beauty of that is other than inside the motor, "you know what you are getting".

Tim, I always appreciate your help. You do a lot for people on here. I have some good used trim i've found local. However I do need a couple other parts. I'll put a list together and pm you soon. Thanks again!

Re: Bought a 71 k20 today

Can you tell if the engine and tranny mounts had to be slid forward to fit it in?

Re: Bought a 71 k20 today

They were not slid forward. That's part of the bad install. They hammered and cut a section on the firewall that Ive got to repair now. I'll check compression in the engine tomorrow and then slide everything forward.

Re: Bought a 71 k20 today

I don't have any pics at the moment. The clearance is to tight. Im not sure I could get any decent pics, but i'll try later. Basically im going to have to cut about a 2x8" patch out of another cab to repair it. The hack is about 6-8" long and goes from say zero to half an inch. I cant see it all, but I can feel it. Just a really bad job. Its a nice cab otherwise or I would have walked away. I looked at quite a few before I bought this one and the cab supports, cowl, upper windshield etc.. were rusted out.
