Can I flip a bolt-in c-notch and weld it in?

I was just thinking about this but don't have a notch kit yet -- could you take the bolt-in CPP style notch kits, and flip them side to side, welding them to the inside of the frame rails? Not sure if there's any strength benefit to doing this but it would box the frame.

If you have the ability to weld, why dont just make it yourself?

Then I'd want to get a plasma cutter for making shapes in metal, which would be cool but I'm looking at $2k for air ride right now and don't want to go crazy all at once...

You don't need a plasma to do that. You would need the same tools if you were welding the pre-made notch in. Making your own would be cheaper.

I don't think most notches span the entire height of the frame. I would verify that before you buy one if that is what you plan on using it for. You may also want to find out of the width of the notch is sufficient to reach the outside of the frame rail so you can weld it in from the outside.

You could get a weld in step notch and shorten it down if you don't need a big notch http://www.avsontheweb.com/1963-1972...8-piece-notch/ If you do go bolt in pbfab.com has 3 different height notches and one of the best bolt ins i have seen.
