Engine cut-off switch?

Has anyone installed a engine cut off switch on their trucks to keep them from getting stolen? I've seen a couple of people with fuel cut-off switches but wouldn't it be easier to have an ignition cut-off switch for older cars like ours?

I wired one before, mounted the switch under the seat. Just wired it to the HEI dist connector, would crank but never start unless switch was on.

Thats what I have done in the past. If you break the circuit on the coil wire it won't start, but it will turn over. If you break the N/S wire it won't turn over if they jack the ignition.

Use a 12v relay to break the circuit and hide the trigger switch.

I had tha idea of maybe useing a switch that mounted under tha carpet..that when you step on it & turn tha key..then it starts...

What kind of relay should I use and how would I wire it? I would guess the output would go to the NSS and an input would be the toggle (which would be connected to the original NSS wire) but what would another input be?

The ground side of the N/S switch can be broken through the relay circuit of a Bosch style relay as pictured below. One wire goes to ground, and a trigger wire goes to +12v. This opens and closes the relay using what ever method you prefer.

From what I've been reading the "to pump" would the be to the N/S switch right? So you would have ground, constant power, trigger, and then the output to the N/S? Sorry just not very knowledgeable with this stuff. I'm thinking about running a wire under the carpet to the cargo light switch and using it as a toggle because I don't have a cargo light.

Also, crawled under the dash today and the NSS has 2 purple wires (one solid and another with a white stripe) and two green wires. Which wire should I run through the switch?

I use:
Battery cut off switch to the starter.
Kill switch to the spark box, theres a wire that when grounded the box wont turn on.
and well the alarm system.

You can also splice an on off switch on the inductive pick ups to the ign module so there will be no signal to the module an no spark from the coil. Mines glued to the back of the glove box.

Three inch wake the dead exhaust and Manual steering and a non choke competition carb also deter theft

I've noticed having a clutch is a huge anti theft device.

Wiring a switch that would kill power to the dizzy and hiding it would be a good idea tho

mine are quiet just cranking ,till they start

I have a funny choke too but if they are warmed up,maybe they watched me come home,waiting.then it's just a turn key.and it's gone

I'd rather have to change the oil......

Straight column is much harder than a tilt column to steal. The start rod runs down the top of the column. Most thieves rip the side of the column up...
