I don't have one of the wheels like you posted but my son is installing a black wheel in his Burb which is similiar. Here is a pic of the wheel that he is installing.

I'd say if your interior used the woodgrain accents on the gauge panel and door panels, it would work well...

I think it will look good, but i really like the look of a stock wheel in great condition. Spend your money on a tilt column so you can adjust that big wheel away from you and your legs.

Hey Jim

Do you happen to know where your son got that steering wheel or what the part number is? I think the black would look better cause my interior is black. Thanks again.

CHEVY_FOREVER That wheel that JimKshortstep4x4 posted is a factory GM wheel. I have one in mine and like it very much. The one that Grant has is a 4 1/2" dish, the GM is 3". It sits flater and looks better. I got mine on Ebay for $60. You need the hub for it as it is a special hub. I got the horn kit and horn button from Clasic Industies. They were used on 68-72 vettes, cameros, 442's, . Mine came off a Camo. New ones are around $200 and vette ones are up in the $500 range. They just seem to fit and look right in these trucks.

CHEVY_FOREVER,
LMC has the same wheel Jim has, p.n. 38-1162 for $99.95. I had a wooden wheel on a project about 15 years ago. The top part that was exposed to sunlight slowly bleached and I couldn't keep any type of finish on it for very long. After a few splinters, I got rid of it. It was a cheap Grant, though, so maybe better wheels and better finishes would prevent this. There's an opinion for ya!
Good Luck!

Chevy Forever,

I actually do know where my son got the wheel since I gave it to him for his birthday. I looked for about a year for a used one and finally gave up. I bought the new wheel kit from Ground Up restorations and it is listed as 69-70 Chevelle. The kit number is IXS-69T, (the kit for a tilt column). Non tilt kit no. is IXS6970. The kit includes the wheel, hub, horn hardware, and horn button.

The tilt kit is $249 and the non tilt kit is $239 so they are not cheap. Wheel looks really nice!

Their number is 1 866 358-2277 or web site is: SS396.com

I had that one in my truck for about a year. Replaced it with a Lumina wheel - much more comfortable.

Got a Grant wheel a while back as a present. I bought the adapter for the horn and it was junk. Put the question to the board and got several responses from guys that had the same problem. Not sure all their adaptors are bad but the one for my model was. Ending up taking the whole set-up back for a refund. Stayed with the Camaro wheel I had. Good luck.

I had a steering wheel similar to that one back in the '60s (mine had 5 holes in it instead of being slotted)...my girlfriend at the time (now my wife of 35 years) saved up her lunch money to buy it for me ($30 at the time...a lot of money back then).

I loved the styling but hated the steering wheel...here in Southern California, where temps rarely get down into the '30s, that steering wheel would get so cold in the morning that I couldn't touch it with my bare hands. That steel rim that the wood is riveted to really gets cold...

Sounds like there are mixed feelings about the Grant Steering Wheels. What is the biggest complaint? Are they just really hard to install?

The problem that I encountered as did other board members was the horn mechanism. Very flimsy and difficult to figure out. Directions were not much help. Wheel itself was easy to install but the adapter and the horn set-up were junk IMO.

You could mount a coustom push button on the truck elese were for the horn, dont worry about the horn on the wheel, most of us rarely use a horn cept of inspection, but thats my $0.02

Really like the look, as long as it's black, I'd pass on the wood. .02
